Sioux City 5, Wichita 4 – Box
A double by RF Michael Lang and a two-run single by CF Tony Campana capped off a three-run ninth inning for Sioux City as they took home a 5-4 walk-off victory over Wichita. The Wingnuts had plated three runs over the eighth and ninth innings to take a 4-2 lead only to see it quickly disappear with the three-run rally by the Explorers in their half of the ninth. Lang had a 4-for-5 night with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI while SS Tanner Vavra had four hits of his own along with a RBI. Explorers reliever Ryan Flores gave up three earned runs over two innings of work but came away with his fourth victory of the year. Flores allowed two hits but struck out two in the nine batters faced.
Fargo-Moorhead 6, St. Paul 2 – Box
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks tallied two runs in the second inning and three more in the third to grab a 5-1 advantage and would go on from there to defeat St. Paul by the score of 6-2. The victory by Fargo-Moorhead was their third straight and moved them to within one-half game of Winnipeg in the North Division. The RedHawks had 10 hits in the contest and was led by 3B Josh Mazzola who went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Fargo-Moorhead leadoff hitter Devan Ahart contributed a pair of hits and two runs while 1B Trever Adams launched a two-run home run in a 1-for-3 night. RedHawks starter Tyler Alexander gave up an earned run over seven innings pitched to nab his fourth win of the year. Alexander allowed two walks and five hits while fanning 10 batters.
Sioux Falls 6, Texas 5 – Box
Sioux Falls 1B Chris Jacobs hit a two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Canaries a 6-5 walk-off win over Texas. The AirHogs had a 5-0 lead after 4 ½ innings only to see Sioux Falls plate a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cut the lead to 5-4 and then lose it in the ninth on the Jacobs single. Canaries leadoff hitter Dan Motl went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and three walks while LF Ty Morrison had three hits, including a home run, and two RBI. Sioux Falls closer Jose Ortega tossed a scoreless ninth inning and earned his third win of the season. Ortega struck out one in the three batters faced.
Cleburne 7, Salina 6 – Box
Right fielder Axel Johnson was the hero for Cleburne tonight as he contributed a two-RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally the Railroaders past Salina by a 7-6 final. Cleburne had a 5-0 advantage after seven innings of play only to see the Stockade score three runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings to grab a 6-5 advantage. However, Salina would not be able to close the deal as the Railroaders plate two in their half of the ninth to collect the walk-off victory. Cleburne LF Nick Van Stratten had a 1-for-3 night with a pair of runs scored while DH Pichi Balet picked-up a hit in five at-bats and drove in three runs. Railroaders closer Winston Abreu gave up three earned runs on two hits in the ninth inning but still notched his second victory of the season.
Lincoln 14, Kansas City 4 – Box
The Lincoln Saltdogs scored seven runs in the first inning to take a 7-0 lead and would cruise from there to a 14-4 win over Kansas City. Lincoln C Brent Dean led the way offensively going 4-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBI. Saltdogs 1B Nathaniel Maggio added a three-run home run and four RBI in a 2-for-4 game while SS Joe Robbins hit a double, scored twice and drove in a run. Lincoln starting pitcher Carlos Pimentel received plenty of run support in winning his seventh game of the season. Pimentel threw five innings giving up two earned runs on three hits and fanning four batters. For Kansas City, 1B Kyle Petty had a terrific game at the plate going 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI.
Winnipeg 2, Gary SouthShore 0 (Bottom 4 – Suspended/Rain)
The game between Winnipeg and Gary SouthShore was suspended due to rain with the Goldeyes leading 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game will be completed on Friday, August 4 beginning at 5:30 p.m. The regularly scheduled game will follow the completion of the suspended game, and will be seven innings in length.
