Sioux City 4, Cleburne 3 (12 Innings) – Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers walked off on the Cleburne Railroaders 4-3 with a sac fly in the bottom of the 12th inning.
The Railroaders took the lead in the first inning when 3B Chase Simpson doubled home RF Angel Reyes and then scored when C John Nester (2-for-4) doubled. 3B Jose Sermo drew one back for the Explorers with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth and the Explorers took the lead in the seventh as 1B Adam Sasser scored when C Dylan Kelly reached on an error and CF Kyle Wren added a sac fly that plated LF Sebastian Zawada.
Nester tied up the game with a sac fly in the eighth that allowed SS Daniel Robertson to score and the score remained level until the Explorers went to work in the 12th.
Sioux City loaded up the bases in the bottom of the 12th by drawing three straight walks setting the stage for Sermo to lift a ball to center field that allowed 2B Drew Stankiewicz to score the game-ending run.
St. Paul 3, Gary SouthShore 2 – Box Score
The St. Paul Saints earned their ninth straight win as they edged the Gary SouthShore RailCats 3-2.
C Mike Aiello pushed the first run of the game across the plate in the top of the fifth inning with a single that scored 3B Chesny Young. In the next at-bat, CF Dan Motl bounced out to short but still gave LF/SS Blake Schmit (2-for-3) enough time to score. SS Marcus Mooney tied things up for the RailCats with a single in the bottom of the frame that plated DH Raymond Jones and 2B Andy DeJesus.
Schmit scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in the top of the seventh on a sac fly from Motl.
Starting pitcher Eddie Medina went eight strong innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out seven, to earn the win. Reliever Karch Kowalczyk threw just one pitch but recorded the final out to earn the save. The win for the Saints also marks eight road wins in a row, which ties the franchise regular season record.
Texas 3, Sioux Falls 2 – Box Score
The Texas AirHogs slid past the Sioux Falls Canaries 3-2 thanks to a ninth inning solo home run from LF Justin Byrd.
The AirHogs struck first in the top of the first inning when Byrd (2-for-4) scored on a fielder’s choice from 1B Chen Junpeng. The Canaries rallied to take the lead in the second as 2B Alay Lago hit a lead-off home run and RF Clint Coulter (2-for-4) scored on a sac fly from LF Mike Hart but Byrd scored again in the third, this time on a pass ball, to tie the game back up at 2-2.
The score remained level until the top of the ninth when Byrd’s one-out roundtripper provided the go-ahead run. It was his first homer of the year.
Chicago 2, Winnipeg 0 – Box Score
The Chicago Dogs evened the series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Thursday evening with a 2-0 win.
The Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when RF Victor Roache doubled to score 2B Edwin Arroyo and then they doubled that lead in the second with Gustavo Pierre’s lead-off home run. Pierre, who was the only batter from either team to have two hits in the game, now has six homers on the season.
Chicago held the Goldeyes to just three hits on the night and starter Austin Wright was tabbed as the winner after throwing six innings and giving up just two hits while recording nine strikeouts. Reliever Kyly Halbohn picked up his 12th save of 2019 by working the ninth.
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Milwaukee 1 – Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks never trailed on the way to a 4-1 win against the Milwaukee Milkmen.
CF Brennan Metzger opened the scoring as he touched home in the top of the first inning thanks to a single from LF Correlle Prime (2-for-4). In the fifth, DH Chris Jacobs doubled the lead with an RBI single plating C Wilfredo Gimenez (2-for-3) and in the sixth, Gimenez doubled the lead again with a two-run home run. The Milkmen’s lone run came in the seventh when C Manuel Boscan hit a lead-off double and scored in the next at-bat when RF Adam Walker singled.
Starting pitcher Bret Helton earned the win for the RedHawks as he went seven innings, gave up two hits, one run, three walks and struck out nine. Reliever Geoff Broussard earned the save.
