Sioux City 4, Grand Prairie 0 – Box
Sioux City starting pitcher Patrick Johnson and two relievers combined a four-hit shutout as the Explorers beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs by a 4-0 score and sweep the series. Johnson went the first six innings giving up two walks and four hits and striking out eight batters. He notched the victory and is now 3-0 on the season. Sioux City was led offensively by RF Michael Lang and LF Tim Colwell as both collected two hits and scored a run.
Rockland 7, Gary SouthShore 6 – Box
Rockland Boulders LF Stephen Cardullo launched a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Boulders of the Can-Am League completed the sweep of the Gary SouthShore RailCats, 7-6. Rockland has now won five straight and are 11-3 on the season. Along with Cardullo, RF Joe Maloney and C Marcus Nidiffer each hit long balls; Maloney’s being a three-run shot in the first inning. Boulders reliever Shawn Gilblair notched the victory as he tossed an inning allowing a hit. For Gary SouthShore in the loss, SS Ryan Brockett went 3-for-4.
Laredo 15, Fargo-Moorhead 4 – Box
Laredo rolled out to a 7-0 after three innings and cruised to a 15-4 over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. The Lemurs banged out 17 hits in the contest with six hitters having multi-hit games. Laredo RF Kevin Taylor had a monster day going 3-for-5 with two home runs, four runs scored and four RBI. Lemurs SS Jimmy Mojica went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and a RBI while C Luke Bailey had two hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Laredo starting pitcher Matt Loosen had more than enough run support to pickup his first win of the season. Loosen went 7 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
Wichita 15, Lincoln 9 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts outlasted the Lincoln Saltdogs 15-9 in a slugfest Sunday afternoon. Wichita scored runs in the first five innings of the game including a five spot in the fifth. Wingnuts 2B TJ Mittelstaedt had a tremendous day at the plate going 4-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored and five RBI. Wichita CF Jayce Ray had five hits in six at-bats with two runs scored and a RBI and SS Luis Hernandez chipped in with three hits. Wingnuts starting pitcher Scott Kuzminsky notched the win as he gave up three hits and four walks in 5 2/3 innings pitched. For Lincoln in defeat, C Ryan Wiggins went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI.
