CRENSHAW TOSSES COMPLETE-GAME TWO-HITTER

St. Paul 2, Sioux Falls 0Box Score

Starting pitcher Dustin Crenshaw (pictured) pitched a complete-game two-hitter to pave the way to a 2-0 win for the St. Paul Saints over the Sioux Falls Canaries.

Crenshaw faced the minimum number of batters as both CF Harrison Kain and C Richard Stock were doubled off after their hits. No Canaries reached base after the second inning as Crenshaw issued no walks in the game. Crenshaw needed just 88 pitches to finish off the game and 66 of those went for strikeouts.

Offensively for the Saints, four batters had two-hit games. LF Willie Argo and 1B Angelo Songco each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

 

 

Winnipeg 4, Joplin 3Box Score

The Winnipeg Goldeyes held off a furious rally from the Joplin Blasters in the top of the ninth inning to claim a 4-3 win.

The Goldeyes built a 4-0 lead and starting pitcher Nick Hernandez protected it with eight innings of no-hit work. He kept the Blasters off the board with the help of eight strikeouts. Hernandez was replaced before the top of the ninth inning and reliever Brendan Lafferty came in with one away to shut the door and earn the save.

Offensively for the Goldeyes, six different batters each had one hit and SS Brad Boyer, C Luis Alan and CF Adam Heisler each had one RBI. For the Blasters, LF Yasser Gomez and DH Jake Taylor had Joplin’s two hits and each added RBI. 3B Omar Luna also added an RBI.

 

Laredo 5, Fargo-Moorhead 1Box Score

The Laredo Lemurs jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning and went on to take care of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-1.

DH Denis Phipps led the way offensively as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. In the first, he doubled home SS Jimmy Mojica for the first run of the night and after 3B Juan Silverio scored on a single by LF Kevin Taylor, Phipps scored on a sacrifice fly. Phipps scored again in the third inning on a double from 1B Tony Delmonico, who was also 3-for-4 with two RBI. Phipps capped off the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.

For the RedHawks, C Charlie Valerio provided Fargo-Moorhead’s only run with a home run in the sixth. SS Zach Penprase had a team-high two hits. Starting pitcher Scott Garner earned the win as he went six innings and allowed just one run on five hits.

 

Lincoln 9, Wichita 5Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts scored first but the Lincoln Saltdogs scored often and ended up taking a 9-5 win at Haymarket Park.

Wichita scored a pair of runs in the top of the first but the Saltdogs scored nine runs in the second through the sixth innings to take control of the ball game. Eight different Saltdogs had hits on the night led by 1B Jeremy Hamilton, who was 3-for-4 with five RBI. C Mitch Canham was 2-for-4 with a home run and CF Jon Gaston also had two hits and two runs scored. DH C.J. Ziegler left the yard for the Saltdogs as well.

For the Wingnuts, 1B/C John Nester went 2-for-4 with two RBI and C/LF Brent Dean also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

 

Amarillo 6, Kansas City 3Box Score

The Amarillo Thunderheads took a four-run lead in the first inning behind back-to-back home runs and never looked back as they doubled up the Kansas City T-Bones 6-3.

2B/DH Geraldo Valentin opened up the scoring when he scored on a fielder’s choice. CF Jason Martin came up in the next at-bat and hit a two-run home run and 1B Rene Leveret followed suit in the next at-bat to put Amarillo ahead 4-0. Leveret and LF Drew Heid each had a team-high two hits.

For the T-Bones, DH Jake Blackwood, 3B Nate Tenbrink and LF Kyle Robinson had RBI. CF Robby Kuzdale added a pair of hits.

 

Sioux City 8, Grand Prairie 4Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers clawed out of an early hole by putting three runs on the board in the fifth and again in the ninth and took an 8-4 win against the Grand Prairie AirHogs.

The Explorers were lead by a 3-for-4 performance from RF Michael Lang who also had a home run and three RBI. Both SS Noah Perio and 3B Tommy Mendonca had two hits for Sioux City and Mendonca was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

For the AirHogs, C Zane Chavez had a team-high two hits and had one of the team’s two RBI.

 

Rockland 5, Gary SouthShore 1  — Box Score

The Rockland Boulders took an early lead and rode solid pitching to a 5-1 interleague win against the visiting Gary SouthShore RailCats.

In the second inning, RF Joe Maloney singled and then scored on an error in the next at bat and C Marcus Nidiffer hit a two-run home run to give the Boulders a 3-0 lead. 1B Charlie Law led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo shot to extend that lead and after DH Michael Schroeder singled home LF Adam Taylor for the RailCats only run in the top of the seventh, DH Steve Nyisztor scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the seventh.

Starting pitcher Stephen Harrold went seven innings and allowed just one run on three hits to earn the win. Harrold walked just two batters and struck out six. Relievers Chad Robinson and Marcus Jensen each worked one perfect inning to close out the game.
