EXPLORERS EDGE CLEBURNE IN 10 INNINGS

Sioux City

Sioux City 5, Cleburne 4 (10 Innings) – Box Score

A run on a wild pitch in the top of the 10th inning made the difference for the Sioux City Explorers in a 5-4 win against the Cleburne Railroaders.

The game was tied at 4-4 after regulation, thanks in large part to a wild eighth inning. In the eighth, 3B Blake Schmit (3-for-5) scored after a single from C Dylan Kelly (2-for-4) to push the Explorers lead to 4-1. But in the bottom of the frame, LF Trevor Sealey and DH Levi Scott hit RBI singles and CF K.C. Huth scored on a fielder’s choice from 3B Chase Simpson (3-for-4).

In the extra frame, 2B Jay Baum (2-for-5) hit a one-out single and took second when Schmit singled. Baum took third when 1B David Kerian flew out to right and he scored on a wild pitch in the next at-bat.

The Railroaders moved Sealey all the way to third in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t tie the game.

 

Gary SouthShore 4, Texas 0 – Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats blanked the Texas AirHogs Tuesday night to bag the 40th win of the season.

Starting pitcher Keaton Steele (3-2) earned the win for working six innings and giving up just four hits and one walk while striking out two batters. At the plate, the RailCats opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when RF Colin Willis scored as CF Reggie Wilson bounced out.

C Andy Paz (2-for-4) scored on a SS Andy DeJesus double in the fourth and LF Tillman Pugh (3-for-5) provided the rest of the offense with a two-run home run in the seventh.

DH Ronnie Mitchell also went 2-for-4 on the day. For the AirHogs, five different batters each had one hit.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 6, St. Paul 0 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks shutout the St. Paul Saints 6-0 behind the efforts of starting pitcher Sebastian Kessay.

Kessay worked six innings and allowed just three hits, no walks and struck out seven batters. With the win he improved to 4-3 on the year. Both teams were scoreless through the first four innings but the RedHawks pulled away late. In the fifth, 3B Derrick Fox scored on a LF Brennan Metzger (2-for-4) single. In the next frame, SS Yhoxian Medina doubled home C Charlie Valerio and he scored alongside CF Devan Ahart when RF Tim Colwell (2-for-4) singled one batters later.

Metzger scored in the seventh and Colwell capped the scoring in the eighth as he crossed the plate after a single from DH Keury De La Cruz (3-for-5).

For the Saints, four different batters each recorded one hit.

 

Wichita 5, Chicago 2 – Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts put up four runs in the top of the first inning and led the whole night as they picked up a 5-2 win against the Chicago Dogs.

It was back-to-back home runs that set the Wingnuts off on the night as RF Angel Reyes hit a three-run shot (his 11th of the year) with two outs in the first and C John Nester (2-for-3) followed with a solo home run in the next at-bat. Chicago’s RF Rubi Silva countered with a solo home run of his own in the fourth and LF Tony Rosselli did the same in the fifth but Chicago never pulled closer.

LF Tony Thomas scored on a sac fly from 1B Logan Trowbridge in the top of the sixth to extend the Wingnuts’ lead to 5-2.

 

Lincoln 6, Winnipeg 3 – Box Score

A six-run fifth inning was more than enough to give the Lincoln Saltdogs a 6-3 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

The Goldeyes led 3-0 after the top of the fifth inning thanks to RBI base hits from 3B Josh Mazzola (2-for-4) and 1B Jordan Ebert in the second and a sac fly from Romanski in the fifth. In the bottom of the frame, 2B T.J. Bennett (2-for-4) hit a lead-off home run and CF Alex Glenn scored on an error to cut the lead to one. After DH Jamey Smart drew a walk, LF Brandon Jacobs (2-for-4) singled home 3B Christian Ibarra to tie the score.

In the next at-bat, RF Randolph Oduber (2-for-4) hit a three-run home run that provided what turned into the game-winning runs.

SS Charlie Valera added a 2-for-4 performance for the Saltdogs.

 

Kansas City 8, Sioux Falls 4 – Box Score

A hot start from the Kansas City T-Bones paved the way for an 8-4 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries.

The T-Bones scored seven of their eight runs in the first three innings and scored three runs in both of the first two innings. In the first, SS Dylan Tice (2-for-6) scored as DH Colin Walsh hit into a fielder’s choice, 3B Mason Davis (2-for-5) came around when C Adrian Nieto hit into a fielder’s choice and Walsh scored on a single from 2B Alay Lago (3-for-5).

In the second, Davis hit a two-run home run and after CF Todd Cunningham bounced out, Walsh hit a solo shot to give the T-Bones a 6-1 lead. The T-Bones held that lead the rest of the night.

For the Canaries, LF Mike Hart went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, 3B Mitch Glasser went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored and CF Jordan Smith also went 2-for-4.
