COLLIER’S UNEARNED RUN STREAK EARNS HIM PITCHER OF THE MONTH

Collier 7 27 18

MOORHEAD, MN.- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Kansas City T-Bones’ RHP Tommy Collier has been named the league’s Rawlings Pitcher of the Month for the month of July.

Collier made five starts in July, and went 3-0 while striking out 42 and posting a 0.98 ERA.

Entering the month, the Cypress, Texas native’s ERA was sitting at 4.83, but after five straight quality starts and 28.2 innings without giving up an earned run,  Collier boasts a ERA of 3.21.

The dominant righty last gave up an earned run in the second inning of a 2-1 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs on July 10. His last two starts include a 8.2 inning no-walk two-hit performance in a 1-0 win over the Texas AirHogs on July 21 and a 7 inning one walk six hit and 11 strikeout gem in a 4-0 win over the Chicago Dogs on July 27. Those starts came on the heels of a 5-2 win over the St. Paul Saints in which the San Jacinto College alum gave up two unearned runs while striking out 10 and giving up just four hits in eight innings of work. Needless to say, he’s red-hot.

Perhaps most impressive is Collier’s 42/3 K/BB ratio over the course of July.

The first time indy-baller began his professional career in 2011 after being drafted in the 22nd round of the 2011 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers. Collier spent six seasons in the Tigers’ system, going 4-1 with a 1.85 ERA as a rookie with Connecticut in the New York/Penn League. In 2016, he reached double-A for the third time, posting a 9-7 record with a 4.20 ERA.
