The Wichita Wingnuts shut out the Grand Prairie AirHogs 1-0 to take the first game of their three-game set.
The shutout marks 18 consecutive scoreless innings for the Wingnuts’ pitching staff as they also shut out Laredo (6-0) on Sunday. Monday, starting pitcher Jon Link picked up the win as he worked six innings and allowed five hits while striking out eight batters. Reliever Paul Smyth closed the door with a perfect ninth to record the save.
RF David Espinosa scored the deciding run with a solo home run to lead off the top of the seventh inning.
Fargo-Moorhead 10, Lincoln 1 — Box Score
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks turned 13 hits into ten runs as they took care of the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-1.
Both RF Joe Dunigan and C Luke Bailey went 3-for-4 on the night for the RedHawks. Dunigan had an RBI and three runs scored and Bailey had four RBI including a three-run home run in the fifth inning. SS Zach Penprase also had a strong game at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI. For the Saltdogs, 1B Curt Smith and DH Mitch Canham each went 2-for-4.
On the bump, starter Brandon Mann went the distance for Fargo-Moorhead and he allowed just the one run on six hits while striking out nine batters.
Sioux City 1, Kansas City 0 – Game 1/ 7 Innings — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers took the first game of their Monday double header with the Kansas City T-Bones 1-0.
The lone run of the contest came in the third inning when CF Matty Johson, who reached base with a leadoff single, scored on a wild pitch. Starting pitcher Eric Wordekemper and Reliever Rob Wort took care of the rest for the Explorers. Wordekemper earned the win for working 5.1 innings and allowing just two hits while striking out four. Wort picked up a five-out save without allowing a hit.
The Explorers had just four hits in the game and 1B Brock Kjeldgaard had two of them.
Sioux City 3, Kansas City 2 – Game 2/7 Innings — Box Score
The Sioux City Explorers walked off the Kansas City T-Bone 3-2s in the second game of their double header to sweep the twin bill.
The Explorers went into the bottom of the seventh trailing by a run but RF Brent Keys singled to score LF Tim Colwell and tie the game. In the next at bat, DH Brock Kjeldgaard drew a walk and after that SS Noah Perio singled to plate Keys and end the game.
On the mound, starting pitcher Patrick Johnson went the distance for the Explorers to pick up the win. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six batters.
Winnipeg 14, Trois-Rivieres 8 — Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes racked up 11 runs in the first three innings and held off a late push from the Trois-Rivieres Aigles to claim a 14-8 win.
Eight of the nine Goldeyes that went to the plate in the game registered at least one hit and five of them had multi-hit games. SS Casio Grider had a game-high four hits and was one of three batters to leave the yard. CF Reggie Abercrombie also hit a home run and he went 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored. DH Casey Haerther, the other Goldeye to hit a round-tripper, was one of three batters to have two hits; 2B James Boddicker and 3B Josh Mazzola also had a pair of hits.
For the Aigles, LF Javier Herrera went 2-for-4 with three RBI and 3B Daniel Mateo and SS Eric Grabe also had two hits in the game.
