St. Paul 2, Sioux City 0 – Box
St. Paul ace Kramer Sneed just keeps getting better. Sneed put up another scoreless start, his third in his last four starts. He has won four consecutive decisions and only allowed three runs over his last 28.2 innings. Tonight he went eight strong only allowing four hits and striking out three. His season ERA sits at 2.73. He was helped out by 2B Alonzo Harris, who went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI. 1B Angelo Songco went 1-4 with a run scored. Reliever Ryan Rodebaugh picked up the save after pitching a scoreless ninth.
Sioux City SS Noah Perio was able to find some success at the plate, going 2-4 in the game. He brought his season batting average up to .325. Starter Ryan Strufing had a solid day, going six innings and only allowing one earned run.
Gary Southshore 4, Joplin 3 – Game 1 – Box
Gary Southshore and Joplin kicked off the action today by completing a game that was played earlier in the month. They picked up in the top of the fifth inning with the Railcats leading 2-0. The Blasters struck quickly by knocking in two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. 3B Jairo Perez singled home OF Oscar Mesa to tie the game. The Railcats responded by putting up two runs of their own. 3B Elbert Devarie tripled to bring home C Jaime Del Valle to give the Railcats the lead. Devarie finished 2-2 with an RBI and Del Valle finished 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Travis McGee helped to finish the game he started earlier in the month, going 7 strong with two runs allowed and a strikeout. Andy Loomis picked up the save.
SS Maikol Gonzalez was all over the basepaths in this game. He went 2-3 with a run scored, a walk and two stolen bases. He brought his season total for swipes up to 39.
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Lincoln 2 – 7 Innings (Shortened by Rain) – Box
In a game that was shortened by rain, Fargo-Moorhead tacked on four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the lead, which Lincoln would not have the chance to respond to. CF Drew Muren started the rally with his walk, he would eventually come around to score. RF Joe Dunigan fueled the inning goin g1-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Started Tyler Herron pitched a complete game for the RedHawks. He went seven innings only allowing one earned run and striking out six.
The SaltDogs got a solid performance out of their starter Shairon Martis, who only allowed one hit and one earned run in 6.2 innings of work. He struck out six. SS Mike Gilmartin went 1-3 with a run scored.
Trois Rivieres 3, Winnipeg 2 – Box
3B Eric Grabe was the big hero tonight for Trois Rivieres due to his walk off single. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Grabe singled to bring home 2B Jose Cuevas, who doubled to lead off the inning. It was Cuevas’ second double of the game and he finished 2-4 with two runs scored. Grabe finished 1-3 with two RBI. Reliever Kaohi Downing picked up the victory after pitching a scoreless ninth inning for the Aigles.
Winnipeg was led by cleanup hitter and first baseman Casey Haerther. He finished 3-5 with a run scored and an RBI. SS Casio Grider swiped two bases in the game.
Wichita 2, Grand Prairie 0 – Box
CF Jayce Ray led the charge for the Wingnuts, scoring both runs for the team in their victory. Ray finished 1-4 with two runs and a double. 1B Andy LaRoche continues to impress after coming on mid-season. He smacked a single to bring home Ray for one of his runs. It was LaRoche’s 10th RBI of the season. Starter Scott Richmond was able to give another strong performance, going six innings and only allowing three baserunners. He struck out six and lowered his ERA to 1.60. Paul Smyth picked up the save by striking out three batters in the ninth.
A couple of AirHogs had good days at the plate. DH Zane Chavez went 2-4. CF Jordy Hart also had two hits in the game. Hart went 2-3.
Joplin vs. Gary Southshore (Game 2) – Suspended
The second game between the Blasters and the Railcats has been suspended due to rain. The teams will resume action tomorrow with the Railcats leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Amarillo vs. Kansas City – Postponed
The game between the Thunderheads and the T-Bones has been postponed due to rain. The two teams will play a double header tomorrow.
Laredo vs. Sioux Falls – Postponed
The game between the Lemurs and the Canaries has been postponed due to rain. The clubs will pick up action again tomorrow with a double header.
