DOGS HOLD OFF SAINTS FOR 5-3 WIN

Chicago 5, St. Paul 3 – Box Score

The Chicago Dogs picked up a 5-3 win against the St. Paul Saints on Sunday evening at Impact Field.

The Saints struck first as CF Mikey Reynolds scored when C Chris Chinea bounced out in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, 1B K.C. Hobson singled home CF Michael Crouse and, in the next at-bat, DH Joey Terdoslavich scored when RF Victor Roache grounded out to second. In the second, LF Harrison Smith doubled home SS Tyler Ladendorf, 3B Blake Allemand scored when Crouse bounced out and Terdoslavich tripled to plate Smith.

The Saints rallied late with a pair of runs in the top of the eighth as they loaded up the bases and Chinea drew a walk and 2B Josh Allen was hit by a pitch but the rally ended there.

 

Milwaukee 11, Winnipeg 3 – Box Score

The Milwaukee Milkmen used a late surge to top the Winnipeg Goldeyes 11-3 on Sunday afternoon at Franklin Field.

The Goldeyes took an early lead as they posted three runs in the bottom of the first inning. 2B Darnell Sweeney hit a two-run shot in the second at-bat of the half-inning and 3B John Nester doubled home CF Jonathan Moroney later in the frame. The Milwaukee bats came to life in the top of the seventh as DH Jose Sermo hit a two-run shot to start the rally. RF Zach Nehrir, CF Brett Vertigan (2-for-5), LF Adam Walker (3-for-5) and 2B Dylan Tice (3-for-4) all added RBI-base hits to tally eight runs in the inning and take a commanding lead.

The Milkmen added three more runs in the top of the ninth as Walker singled home 1B David Washington and then scored alongside Tice when SS Mason Davis (2-for-5) doubled.

The win puts the Milkmen just .5 games behind the Goldeyes for the top spot in the 2020 American Association standings.

 

Sioux Falls 9, Fargo-Moorhead 4 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries claimed the series win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks with a 9-4 victory on Sunday evening in Sioux Falls.

The win moves the Canaries into third place in the 2020 standings, just 1.5 games out of second and a playoff spot and .5 games clear of St. Paul. The Canaries pulled away late after both teams scored a pair of runs in the first two innings. In the fifth, RF Clint Coulter (3-for-4) hit a two-run single and in the seventh, 2B Alay Lago and 3B Damek Tomscha both scored as C Roy Morales (2-for-4) doubled. LF Mike Hart (2-for-4) added two more runs for the Canaries in the bottom of the eighth with a single that plated DH Jabari Henry and Coulter.

DH Leobaldo Pina (2-for-4) hit a two-run shot for the RedHawks in the top of the ninth but that proved to be the final run of the game.

Starting pitcher Tyler Herron went eight strong innings allowing four earned runs on nine hits while striking out six batters and improving to 6-1 on the year.
