DockHounds can’t catch up to RailCats early burst

Gary Southshore Railcats

Railcats 3, DockHounds 2 – Boxscore

In the sole Monday-night match up, the RailCats’ early 2-run first inning and dependable pitching was enough to grant them a much-needed win. After being winless over the weekend against the Sioux Falls Explorers, the RailCats arrived to Oconomowac hungry for victory.

Gary-SouthShore’s offense immediately took advantage of a leadoff walk from DockHounds starter Devin Beckley. RailCats’ Michael Woodworth hit a 2-run homerun in the second at-bat of the game, giving them a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Both teams would be scoreless until the fourth inning when DockHounds’ Daikan Yoh scored on a fielder’s choice from Lamar Briggs to cut the lead 2-1.

The real battle began in the 6th inning when both teams traded runs. The dangerous top of the order from Gary-SouthShore added to their lead with a run from a Daniel Lingua sac-fly to score Zach Welz, making it 3-1. Lake Country responded with a solo homerun from the run-producing first baseman Gio Brusa.

The RailCats’ bullpen was able to keep the DockHounds at bay remaining scoreless after the 6th.
