August 26 Box Scores

El Paso 3, Grand Prairie 0

With the combined effort of the El Paso pitching staff, the Diablos blanked the Grand Prairie and held them to just three hits as they won 3-0. Starter Justin Kuks was the winner as he pitched the first 5.2 innings and allowed just two hits while striking out five batters.

Reliever Charlie Hejny came in and worked an inning without giving up a hit and Jake Meiers replaced him and continued the shutout. Marshall Schuler came in and earned the save by working a hitless ninth.

Offensively RF Welington Dotel went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. He also scored a run along with SS Maikol Gonzalez and LF Oscar Mesa.

Newark 6, Laredo 4

One six-run, fourth-inning rally was enough for the Newark Bears to beat the Laredo Lemurs 6-4. 1B Ernie Banks Jr. started the scoring with a single that brought home LF Derrick Pyles. Pyles was 3-for-4. C Kyle Lafrenz followed Banks with an RBI double and DH Mike Gedman singled in Lafrenz in the next at bat. 2B Richard Arias capped off the rally with a three-run homerun.

For the Lemurs, RF Harrison Kain posted a team-high three hits and three other batters – C Brian Peterson, CF Stephen Douglas and 2B Mike Provencher – had two-hit games. Eight of the nine batters in the Laredo order had at least one hit.

Starter Omar Javier was tabbed as the winner as he allowed just one run (unearned) on seven hits in five innings of work. Reliever Jorge Vasquez was credited with the save.
