DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes INF Wes Darvill (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending May 28.

Darvill hit .480 (12-for-25) this week, collecting four doubles, a triple, and a home run. He drove in nine runs in helping the Goldeyes to a 5-1 week.

The Langley, BC, Canada native began his week on Monday in the opener of a neutral-site series with the Salina Stockade in Wichita, Kan, Darvill fell a home run shy of the cycle, as he was 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, and four RBI in a 12-10 Winnipeg victory. After the Goldeyes won the series with a 7-3 win Tuesday, Darvill recorded his second three-hit game of the week in a 16-0 Wednesday victory. He hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run in the sweep-completing win.

Darvill and the Goldeyes remained in Wichita to face the Wichita Wingnuts in a three-game set from Thursday through Saturday. Despite dropping the series opener, Darvill was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI. Winnipeg bounced back to take a 3-2 win on Friday, and Darvill added another hit in the process. The week concluded on Saturday with another-three hit game — this one featuring a home run, two more RBI, two runs scored and an 8-2 Winnipeg win.

On the season, Darvill is now hitting .410 with four doubles, a triple, a home run and nine RBI. He is in his second campaign with the Goldeyes, having hit .262 in 96 games a season ago. 2016 saw Darvill accumulate 16 doubles, six triples, two home runs and 41 RBI. Darvill came to Winnipeg following a seven-year stint in the Chicago Cubs organization, where he played as high as the Class AA Tennessee Smokies of the Southern League. Darvill’s best season in the Cubs system came in 2013, when he hit a combined .267 between the Class A Kane County (Ill.) Cougars of the Midwest League and the Class A Advanced Daytona (Fla.) Tortugas of the Florida State League. Darvill collected 16 doubles, seven triples, three home runs and 40 RBI that season.

Winnipeg returns home for the first time in 2017 tonight to take on the Sioux Falls Canaries at 7:00 p.m. Central time at Shaw Park. The series can be seen live and for free at www.americanassociationbaseball.tv.
