St. Paul 8, Cleburne 3 — Final/15 Innings — Box Score
With the game tied at 3-3 after nine innings, the St. Paul Saints and the Cleburne Railroaders headed to extra innings. It wasn’t until the 15th inning, when C Tony Caldwell (pictured) sent a three-run home run over the fence to spark a late-night rally, that a winner was decided.
Caldwell’s shot, his third of the year, scored RF Danny Oh and SS Jon Kristofferson to give his team a 6-3 lead. Three batters later, 2B Tony Thomas doubled to plate 3B Nate Hanson and 1B Brady Shoemaker to reach the final 8-3 margin. Oh went 4-for-7 in the game and both Hanson and CF Tim Colwell added a pair of hits for the Saints. For the Railroaders, LF Devin Ahart went 2-for-6 with a runs scored and an RBI.
The game, which lasted five hours and 15 minutes, set a new St. Paul franchise record for longest time of game.
Lincoln 5, Texas 4 — Box Score
After a wild ninth inning, LF Brandon Jacobs blasted a two-run, walk-off home run to give the Lincoln Saltdogs a 5-4 win against the Texas AirHogs.
The Saltdogs led 3-1 heading into the final frame but the AirHogs moved in front 4-3 after SS Beamer Weems drew a bases-loaded walk and then RF Denis Phipps singled in a pair of runs. In the bottom of the frame, DH Brent Dean drew a one-out walk and after a strikeout, Jacobs hit his second home run of the year for the walk-off victory. Jacobs was one of four Saltdogs to have two hits in the game.
For the AirHogs, Phipps had a team-high two RBI and 3B Ryne Willard went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Wichita 6, Salina 0 — Box Score
Wichita Wingnut starting pitcher Alex Boshers tossed a complete-game shutout to lead his team to a 6-0 win against the Salina Stockade.
Boshers improved to 2-1 on the year as he blanked the Stockade while giving up six hits. He needed just 104 pitches to finish of the game, 72 for strikes, and walked just one batter. The Wingnuts backed him up with six runs on eight hits. CF Harrison Cain and 1B Matt Chavez had matching lines on the day as they each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Both RF Richard Prigatano and SS Leo Vargas each had a pair of RBI.
For the Stockade, C Jesse Baker went 2-for-3 and four other batters each had one hit.
Sioux City 5, Fargo-Moorhead 3 — Box Score
Behind a pair of monster extra-base hits the Sioux City Explorers broke a tie in the top of the eighth inning and went on to beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 5-3.
With the game tied at 3-3 after seven complete innings, the Explorers rallied in the top of the eighth. C Tyler Ogle belted a one-out double and then scored went 2B Nick Flair tripled in the next at-bat. Flair gave the Explorers a two-run lead as he scored on a wild pitch during PH Dylan Kelly’s at-bat. Relievers Brad Orosey, who earned the win, and P.J. Francescon, who earned the save, set the RedHawks down in order in the bottom of the eighth and ninth to seal the win.
For the RedHawks, RF K.D. Kang went 3-for-4 and C Charlie Valerio went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Sioux Falls 10, Winnipeg 5 — Box Score
The Sioux Falls Canaries doubled up the Winnipeg Goldeyes 10-5 in a game where the two teams combined for 31 hits.
Sioux Falls belted out 17 hits in the contest as all nine batters had at least one hit and seven of them had multi-hit games. 3B Chris Jacobs paced the squad as he went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. LF Ty Morrison was one of six Canaries to record a pair of hits and one of his was his second home run of the season. Both RF Patrick FIala and 1B Aaron Gretz had two hits and two runs scored when CF Dan Motl had two hits and a pair of RBI.
For the Goldeyes, seven different batters picked up hits in the game. CF Reggie Abercrombie went 3-for-3 and C Alixon Suarez went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Kansas City 10, Gary SouthShore 4 — Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones picked up a five-run lead in the first three innings and that proved to be enough as they topped the Gary SouthShore RailCats 10-4.
After breaking the ice in the second, the T-Bones piled on four more in the third. SS Eddie Newton scored the first run of the rally when 3B Marcus Lemon bounced out and then CF Omar Garcia, who went 3-for-5 on the day, scored on a sac fly from 2B Zach Walters. A DH Chase McDonald two-run home run gave the visitors a 5-0 lead. 1B Kevin Keyes, who went 2-for-4, added a two-run home run in the seventh inning for the T-Bones.
For the RailCats, SS Ryan Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and both 1B Alex Crosby and DH Frank Martinez went 2-for-4.
