St. Paul 4, Sioux City 0 – Box
St. Paul starter Robert Coe was in the zone the entire night against the Sioux City Explorers. In the Saints 4-0 victory, Coe threw all nine innings to record an impressive complete game shutout.
During the outing, Coe allowed just three Sioux City hits and walked just a single batter. Otherwise he baffled the Explorers all night, striking out nine on 120 pitches.
2B Devin Thaut and LF Willie Cabrera were important offensively for the Saints, with Thaut going 3-4 with a run in the leadoff spot and Cabrera hitting his third home run of the season in the six-hole.
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Winnipeg 3 – Box
On the same day that the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks signed Wes Roemer, he played an integral part in the team’s 4-3 win against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Down 3-1 heading into the ninth inning Roemer took the mound in what seemed to just be mop-up duty. But after working around a pair of walks and a hit, Roemer shut Winnipeg out and kept the RedHawks within striking distance. And they struck the very next inning, with back-to-back-to-back doubles and a walk off RBI single from 1B C.J. Retherford.
Roemer has beenwith the RedHawks for just one day and he’s already pinned down his first win.
Lincoln 5, Amarillo 4 – Box
The Lincoln Saltdogs were able to edge out the Amarillo Sox, 5-4 after scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth to break a 4-4 tie.
The frame started with back-to-back strikeouts and extra innings were beginning to look like a safe bet. But, C Chris Anderson, DH Tyler Smith and CF Chad Mozingo weren’t having any of that and manged to come up with a single apiece to keep the inning alive and, after Anderson crossed the plate, secure the win.
Anderson finished the game 1-4 with the game winning run, Smith went 2-4 out of the ninth spot and Mozingo went 1-4 with a walk and the game winning hit.
Wichita 7, Grand Prairie 4 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts outhit the Grand Prairie AirHogs 12-9, and took advantage of an error in the field to top the AirHogs 7-4.
1B Colt Loehrs paced the Wingnuts with a three-hit performance out of the eighth spot in the lineup, which included four runs and two RBIs. 2B Jake Kahaulelio had a nice night as well, going 2-5 with three RBIs while batting third.
Tim Brown received the win for Wichita after throwing seven innings and allowing just two runs on six hits. He struck out nine batters and walked none on 100 pitches.
Gary SouthShore 8, Sioux Falls 6 – Box
Despite being outhit 11-9, the Gary SouthShore RailCats were able to muster up a seven-run seventh inning and take down the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-6. With only two more hits than runs, Gary’s nine walks proved to be a huge difference maker in this one.
C Ryan Babineau was a great example of that, and scored twice despite going 0-2–he reached base four times on walks. 3B Wally Backman also reached base four times, but managed it with the bat and his plate discipline, picking up a pair of hits and a pair of walks.
Laredo 7, Kansas City 4 (10 Innings) – Box
The Laredo Lemurs got the better of Kansas City after rallying in the top of the tenth to put three runs on the board and shutting the T-Bones out in the bottom of the frame to pick up a 7-4 victory.
The game-winner came off the bat of 1B John Alonso, who homered after 2B Travis Denker and RF Gerardo Avila both reached base to start the inning. The Lemurs spoiled a few additional chances to expand the lead after that, but it made no difference thanks to a strong relief showing from Chad Povich. He struck out the side in a perfect 10th inning to clinch the win and pick up the save.
