Gary SouthShore 9, Sioux Falls 2 – Box
The Gary SouthShore RailCats took down the Sioux Falls Canaries 9-2 on the back of a complete game from Morgan Coombs.
Coombs held Sioux Falls to just six hits throughout the entire game, struck out three and walked one while allowing two runs. He needed just 118 pitches to get through the game. 70 of them went for strikes.
2B Zac Mitchell had an excellent night offensively for the RailCats. Out of the eighth spot in the lineup, Mitchell went 2-4 with a double and three runs. SS Daniel Pulfer went 1-3 with a walk, three RBIs and a run out of the leadoff spot.
Fargo-Moorhead 4, Winnipeg 2 – Box
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks outhit Winnipeg 12-9 Saturday night and capitalized on those hits to beat the Goldeyes 4-2.
At the back of the lineup, 2B Brandon Newton and RF Anthony Kaskadden had two-hit games for the RedHawks and created two runs for the team. 3B Ronnie Bourquin hit his third home run of the season while going 1-2 with a walk and two RBIs.
Fargo starter Jake Laber picked up the win after throwing five innings and allowing two runs. He struck out five Winnipeg batters and walked two.
Lincoln 4, Amarillo 3 – Box
The Lincoln Saltdogs edged out the Amarillo Sox to pick up a 4-3 victory after outhitting the Sox 9-4.
The offensive execution was an all-around effort for Lincoln, with seven batters notching hits and scoring or driving in runs. RF Brian Joynt and LF Matt Forgatch paved the way with two hits apiece. The two combined to go 4-8 and scoretwo runs.
Trey Barham picked up the win for the Saltdogs thanks to his 1.1 perfect innings of relief.
St. Paul 4, Sioux City 3 – Box
The St. Paul Saints were able to hold off the Sioux City Explorers and claim a 4-3 victory despite a two-run rally from the Explorers in the top of the ninth.
Dan Sattler got into some trouble in that inning after blanking the Explorers in the eighth. He gave up two hits and three walks but shut the door on Sioux City before they could tie up the game to get the save. Five of the six outs that Sattler got came from a strikeout.
DH Willie Cabrera had a nice night at the plate for St. Paul, picking up three hits in four trips to the plate in addition to scoring a run.
Kansas City 5, Laredo 3 – Box
The Laredo Lemurs outhit the Kansas City T-Bones 7-6, but defensive miscues on the part of Laredo helped the T-Bones to a 5-3 win.
Just two of Kansas City’s five runs were earned after a pair of errors from the Lemurs. LF David Espinosa and DH Nick Giarrapto led Kansas City offensively with multi-hit games out of the two- and seven-holes respectively. Espinosa tripled for the third time of the season and Giarrapto hit his first home run in this one.
T-Bone starter Pat Doyle tossed seven strong innings en route to the win, striking out five and walking two while giving up three earned runs.
