RAILCATS SWEEP X’S AND WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT

Gary SouthShore 6, Sioux City 5 (10 Innings)Box

RF Drew Martinez singled home DH Adam Taylor in the top of the 10th inning with the go-ahead run as the Gary SouthShore RailCats beat the Sioux City Explorers, 6-5. The win by the RailCats was their fourth win in a row and completed the sweep of Sioux City. Martinez had three hits in six at-bats along with two runs scored and two RBI. Gary SouthShore C Ryan Babineau chipped in with two hits and drove in three runs and SS Daniel Pulfer had two hits and two runs scored.

Quebec 13, St. Paul 3Box

It was all Quebec in this one as the Capitales rolled out to a 5-0 lead after two innings and would go on to a 13-3 victory over the St. Paul Saints. Quebec CF Mike Provencher had a big night at the plate going 2-for-3 with a double, two walks and three runs scored. Capitales 1B Rene Leveret chipped in with two hits in four at-bats and two runs scored while SS Jonathan Malo drove in four runs. Quebec starting pitcher Shawn Sanford notched the win as he allowed three earned runs on five hits in seven innings pitched. For St. Paul in the loss, DH Henry Wrigley hit a home run in a 2-for-4 night.

Grand Prairie 6, Trois-Rivieres 2Box

Trailing 2-1 after two innings, the Grand Prairie AirHogs would rally with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead and they would go on to win by that same score over the Trois-Rivieres Aigles of the Can-Am League. The Grand Prairie 2-3-4 hitters of LF Abel Nieves, CF Palmer Karr, Jr. and DH Jason Botts did the most damage offensively as they went a combined 7-for-12 at the plate with two doubles, three RBI and five runs scored. AirHogs starting pitcher Trevor Harden had a solid outing en route to the victory. Harden went 7 2/3 innings giving up two earned runs on six hits with a walk and nine strikeouts.

Winnipeg 8, Sioux Falls 3Box

The Winnipeg Goldeyes finished off the four-game sweep of the Sioux Falls Canaries as they won by the score of 8-3. Winnipeg banged out 17 hits in the contest with six batters having multi-hit games. Goldeyes DH Ray Sadler went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI while CF Reggie Abercrombie had three hits in five at-bats and drove in three runs. Winnipeg starting pitcher Nick Hernandez had plenty of offensive support to collect his first win of the season. Hernandez allowed an earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings pitched. Shortstop Ty Forney drove in two runs for Sioux Falls in defeat.

Kansas City 6, Wichita 2Box

Kansas City plated three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good as the T-Bones would go on to win by the score of 6-2 over the Wichita Wingnuts. Kansas City SS Vladamir Frias went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI and 1B Nick Schwaner scored two runs in a 1-for-3 night. Leftfielder David Espinosa chipped in with two RBI for the T-Bones. Kansas City starter Daniel Barone continues to have a good start to the season. Barone gave up only an earned run over six innings pitched to improve his record to 3-0 on the season.

Fargo-Moorhead 5, Lincoln 2Box

Fargo-Moorhead scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead and that would be all that they would need as the RedHawks beat the Lincoln Saltdogs, 5-2 at Haymarket Park. Fargo-Moorhead LF Sawyer Carroll led the offensive charge as he had a 2-for-3 game with two runs scored, two stolen bases and a run batted in. RedHawks SS Zach Penprase had a hit and a RBI while 1B C.J. Retherford collected two runs batted in. Fargo-Moorhead Drew Bowlin allowed five hits over six innings to earn the win. For Lincoln in defeat, starting pitcher Joe Bisenius fanned 12 batters.
