DURHAM, NC – Lincoln Saltdogs OF Dan Carroll (right) is tied for the team lead in home runs (7) and doubles (11). While the Saltdogs will miss his production, they will surely wish him well. The 24-year old outfielder had his contract purchased by the Atlanta Braves earlier today.
This season was Carroll’s first in independent baseball and it was a good one. In addition to his extra-base hit totals, Carroll swiped 22 bases, giving him seven more than the next-best base-stealer in Lincoln. He also drove in 30 runs, good for second-best on the team.
Carroll spent his previous six seasons as a member of the Seattle Mariners’ organization. The M’s used their third round pick in the 2007 MLB June Amateur Draft to select Carroll out of Valley View High School in Moreno Valley, CA. Carroll started strong, hitting .312 between the rookie and short-season levels during his first season. The outfielder advanced as high as Double-A in the Mariners’ system before joining Lincoln earlier this year. Atlanta is expected to send Carroll to Low-A in the South Atlantic League, where he will be a member of the Rome Braves.
