El Paso 6, Laredo 5
The El Paso Diablos came back from down three runs in the ninth inning and put up four runs to slide past the Laredo Lemurs 6-5. The Diablos tied up the score when CF Gabe Suarez singled in a run. LF Oscar Mesa knocked in the eventual game-winning run with a single that pushed 1B Jonathan Cisneros across the plate.
Mesa was 3-for-4 in the game. Cisnersos and Suarez were both 2-for-5. For the Lemurs C Brian Peterson had a team high two hits and DH John Allen posted three RBI.
St. Paul 5, Grand Prairie 0
The St. Paul Saints blanked the Grand Prairie AirHogs 5-0 after the Saints pitching staff combined to give up just three hits. Starter Mike Koons picked up the win for throwing the first six scoreless innings and allowing just two hits. Reliever Mikey Mehlich came in for two innings of relief and allowed just one hit and Matt Meyer came in and shut the door in the ninth.
Offensively, both SS Adam Frost and LF Willie Cabrera went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. 3B Joey Becker also had two hits in the game.
Sioux Falls 2, Sioux City 0
Despite being outhit, the Sioux Falls Canaries edged the Sioux City Explorers 2-0. Sioux Falls took the lead in the third inning on a solo homerun by CF Nick Van Stratten, his fifth of the year. The Canaries scored again in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by SS Cory Morales.
Thanks to a strong showing by Explorers starter Andy Noga, no Canary had more than one hit. He went the distance and allowed just two runs on five hits. At the plate for Sioux City, 3B Bryan Pounds was 3-for-4 and CF Yusuke Inoguchi was 2-for-4. Sioux Falls starter Adam Champion earned the win for going 7.0 scoreless innings.
Amarillo 6, Lincoln 4
The Amarillo Sox took the lead right away and they held the Lincoln Saltdogs to claim a 6-4 victory. RF Chris Valencia, who was 2-for-4 with three RBI, gave the Sox the lead in the first inning with a two-run double. He knocked in another run in the second inning to give the Sox the 4-0 lead.
Eight of the nine Saltdogs in the order had a hit but none of them had more than one. Four Sox had multi-hit games including CF Jason Martin who was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a pair of walks. Starter Jason Mitchell earned his first win in his last four starts by allowing just one earned run on six hits.
Winnipeg 6, Quebec 4 (Final – 11 Innings)
The Winnipeg Goldeyes put up a pair of runs in the top of the eleventh inning to claim an extra inning affair with the Quebec Capitales. The Goldeyes loaded up the bases with two outs in the 11th inning and then the Capitales walked in a pair of runs. Reliever Patrick Keating came in for the Goldeyes in the bottom of the inning to close out the win and after giving up a single he set the Capitales down in order to earn the save.
For the Goldeyes, RF Ray Sadler was 3-for-6 with two homeruns and three runs scored. SS Josh Mazzola also had three hits in the game. For the Capitales, DH Rene Leveret had a three-run homerun and SS Jeff Helps had a team-high three hits.
Wichita 8, Kansas City 3
With the help of five-run fifth inning the Wichita Wingnuts handled the Kansas City T-Bones 8-3. The Wingnuts loaded up the bases for CF Brent Clevlen who started the scoring with a two-RBI double. Clevlen was 2-for-5 in the game. 3B Abel Nieves followed that with an RBI single of his own and the C Cole Armstrong brought in the fourth and fifth runs of the rally with another RBI double.
For the T-Bones, four different batters had multi-hit games. 1B Kyle Nichols was one of those batters and he also had one RBI. 2B Felix Molina had the same line, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Fargo-Moorhead 9, Gary SouthShore 3
Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks CF Nic Jackson powered an offensive explosion that helped the RedHawks beat the Gary SouthShore RailCats 9-3. Jackson was four-for-five with an RBI and three runs scored. Both SS Zach Penprase and LF Mitch Einertson added two hits for the RedHawks.
For the RailCats, RF Mike Massaro had a team-high two hits. Starter Paul Burnside was the winner in the contest after going 6.1 innings. The RedHawks win sets up a rubber match Saturday after they dropped Thursday’s game.
