CANARIES TAKE OFF LATE FOR WIN AGAINST RAILCATS

Sioux Falls 10, Gary SouthShore 4 – Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries broke a 4-4 tie with six unanswered runs in the final two innings to take a 10-4 win against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

1B David Bergin (2-for-4) broke the 4-4 tie in the top of the eight inning with a solo home run. Later in the inning, CF Jordan Smith and 3B Patrick Fiala (2-for-4) hit back-to-back RBI singles and Smith scored when LF Jeff Malm lifted a sac fly to right. In the ninth, RF Jabari Henry (2-for-4) added a two-run home run to put the game away.

Bergin, who homered twice on the night, and Malm both added three runs scored and two RBI. DH Chis Grayson also added a pair of hits and a run scored for the Canaries.

For the RailCats, 1B Alex Crosby went 2-for-3 with a run scored and RF Colin Willis went 1-for-3 with three RBI including his sixth home run of the year.

 

Sioux City 6, Cleburne 1 – Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers struck in the first inning and never trailed on the way to a 6-1 win against the Cleburne Railroaders.

2B Jay Baum (2-for-4) pushed the first run of the game across in the bottom of the first with a single that plated RF Michael Lang (2-for-3). SS Nate Samson (2-for-3) stole home in the next at-bat to take a 2-0 lead. The Railroaders scored their only run of the day in the top of the fifth when CF KC Huth popped a sac fly to right that allowed RF Alex Polston to score.

But the Explorers came right back in the bottom of the inning with four crucial runs to pull away from Cleburne. LF Daniel Jackson (2-for-3) tripled home C Dylan Kelly and then Jackson scored when Lang singled one out later. Lang scored two batters later when 3B Jose Sermo reached on a fielder’s choice and, after Baum struck out, 1B Dexture McCall singled home Samson to cap the rally and the scoring for the night.

On the bump, starter Taylor Jordan earned the win for working 6.2 innings and allowing the one run on just four hits while striking out eight batters.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 8, Chicago 2 – Box Score

The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks held the lead from the top of the first inning all the way through as they topped the Chicago Dogs 8-2.

CF Devan Ahart (3-for-6) doubled in the first at-bat of the game and scored when 2B Maikol Gonzalez reached on an error. After a LF Brennan Metzger (2-for-3) single, Gonzalez scored on a double from C Charlie Valerio (2-for-4). Metzger scored as 1B Chris Jacobs (3-for-4) bounced out for the second out of the inning. For the Dogs, CF Kenny Wilson hit a lead-off home run in the bottom of the inning but their only other run of the night came in the fifth when he scored on an error.

The RedHawks put the finishing touches on the win with a four-run eighth inning that saw RBI singles from Metzger and DH Keury De La Cruz as well as a bases-loaded walk and a sac fly from RF Tim Colwell.

Fargo-Moorhead racked up 15 hits in the game and held the Dogs to just six. DH Joe Benson led the way for Chicago as he went 2-for-2 with two walks.
