AUGUST 10 AFTERNOON RECAP

Sioux Falls 10, Winnipeg 2 – Box

It was all Sioux Falls in this one as the Canaries jumped out on top early and cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Sioux Falls scored in six of their eight innings at the plate and banged out 13 hits. Canaries C Michael Pair went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI while 3B B.J. Guinn added two hits, scored three times and drove in a run. Sioux Falls starting pitcher Joe Bircher tossed seven solid innings in earning his third win of the season. Bircher allowed two earned runs on five hits and struck out nine batters. For Winnipeg in the losing effort, LF Adam Heisler collected two hits and CF/RF Josh Romanski launched his seventh home run on the season.

Gary SouthShore 5, St. Paul 3 – Box

The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead and that proved to be the difference as they downed the St. Paul Saints, 5-3. Gary SouthShore collected 14 hits in the contest and was led by SS Andy DeJesus who went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. RailCats LF Reggie Wilson chipped in three hits with a run scored and a RBI while CF Anthony Cheky had two hits in five at-bats and plated a run. Gary SouthShore starter Taylor Black picked up the win and improved his mark to 5-5 on the season. Black threw six strong innings giving up an unearned run on six hits and fanned four batters. Designated hitter Brady Burzynski went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI in the loss for St. Paul.
