Sioux Falls 2, Gary SouthShore 1 (12 Innings)Box Score

The Sioux Falls Canaries (5-3) edged past the Gary SouthShore RailCats 2-1 thanks to an RBI single from Kevin Taylor in the top of the 12th inning.

The RailCats scored the first run of the game when LF John Price Jr. singled home 2B Andy DeJesus in the bottom of the fourth but the Canaries tied the score in the top of the seventh. CF Brett Vertigan plated the tying run with a single that pushed C Graham Low across home plate. In the 12th, DH Adrian Nieto singled with one out, stole second and then scored when 1B Kevin Taylor singled to center field.

The Canaries held the RailCats to just four hits on the night and Reliever Luis Pollorena picked up the win after working the final two innings and giving up just one hit and striking out two.



Chicago 5, Milwaukee 4Box Score

The Chicago Dogs (4-3) held off a late comeback from the Milwaukee Milkmen, racking up 19 strikeouts along the way, to earn a 5-4 win.

Chicago built an early lead thanks to a three-run home run by SS Harrison Smith in the second inning and a single from CF Tony Rosselli (4-for-4) in the third that plated LF Trey Varva. The Milkmen (3-6) drew two back in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run shot from OF Nolan Earley. Rosselli added a solo home run in the top of the eighth that proved to be crucial as C Manuel Boscan and LF Taisei Fukuhara each had RBI base hits for Milwaukee in the bottom of the frame.

Starting pitcher Luke Westphal earned the win for going six innings without allowing a hit or a run and tallying a new franchise record 12 strikeouts. Reliever Josh Goosen-Brown picked up the save by striking out the side in the ninth.


Texas 4, Fargo-Moorhead 2Box Score

The Texas AirHogs (2-6) fought back from an early hole to drop the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 4-2.

The RedHawks jumped off to a strong start as CF Brennan Metzger hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning. In the second, DH T.J. Bennett (2-for-4) scored when SS Yhoxian Medina bunted back to the pitcher. RF Stewart Ijames changed the game with one swing by hitting a three-run home run in the top of the fourth and giving the AirHogs the lead.

Texas added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when 1B Chen Junpeng singled home 2B Li Ning (2-for-4).


Cleburne 7, Lincoln 5 – Box Score

The Cleburne Railroaders (5-4) broke a late tie with two runs in the ninth inning to beat the Lincoln Saltdogs 7-5.

The Railroaders were leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth but a triple from 2B John Sansone plated DH Curt Smith (2-for-5) and CF Nick Schulz to tie the score. In the top of the ninth, C Audie Afenir drew a lead off walk and eventually came around to score as LF Nike Rotola bounced into a fielder’s choice. Two batters later, RF K.C. Huth (who also reached base on a walk) scored on a wild pitch, putting the Railroaders in front by two.

Reliever Tyler Wilson was credited with the win after earning the final four ours all via strikeout.



St. Paul 8, Sioux City 1 – Box Score

The St. Paul Saints (5-3) put seven runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning and went to top the Sioux City Explorers 8-1.

The Saints were powered by 14 hits in the game including three from RF Burt Reynolds and two each from 2B/LF Blake Schmit, 1B/C Jeremy Martinez, who also homered, and CF Dan Motl. 2B Josh Allen added a pair of RBIs as well. For the Explorers (2-6), SS Nate Samson went 2-for-4 and 1B Dexture McCall scored the team’s lone run.

Starting pitcher Nick Belzer picked up the in for tossing six innings and allowing three hits, no runs, and striking out two batters.


Kansas City at Winnipeg – Postponed (Rain)

The game between Kansas City and Winnipeg was postponed due to rain. The match will be made up tomorrow, Saturday, May 25, as a part of a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. Central Time. Both games will be seven innings.
