Sioux Falls 9, Laredo 8 — Box Score
Sioux Falls 1B David Bergin’s big night lifted the Canaries to a walk-off 9-8 win against the Laredo Lemurs.
In the bottom of the ninth and after the Lemurs had scored three runs to take an 8-6 lead in the top of the frame, the Canaries loaded up the bases for Bergin. With one out, Bergin slapped a bases-clearing double to walk off on the Lemurs. Bergin, who finished the night 2-for-4 with five RBI, also hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.
Three different Lemurs – CF Drew Martinez, 2B J.D. Pulfer and SS Alvaro Rondon – each had three hits in the game and Rondon added a pair of RBI.
Lincoln 4, Wichita 3 — Box Score
The Lincoln Saltdogs racked up 17 hits in the game but none more important than C Ryan Wiggins’ triple in the top of the tenth that scored SS Danier Moreira that ultimately gave Lincoln a 4-3 win against the Wichita Wingnuts.
Moreira, who went 4-for-5 in the game, singled with two outs in the previous at-bat and Wiggins’ triple broke a 3-3 tie. Reliever Evan Reed allowed a pair of walks in the bottom of the frame but kept the Wingnuts off the board to seal the win. For the night, both LF Brandon Jacobs and 3B Luis Alen went 3-for-5.
For the Wingnuts, 1B Matt Chavez went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Kansas City 5, Gary SouthShore 4 — Box Score
After Gary SouthShore scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 4-3 lead, the Kansas City T-Bones came right back with two runs of their own to walk off to a 5-4 win.
In the top of the ninth, SS Jarred Mederos hit a lead-off double and then scored on a RF Chase Harris putout to tie the game. In the next at-bat, LF Cameron Newell scored on a single from DH Frank Martinez to take the lead but in the bottom of the frame, LF Tyson Gillies doubled and then he and 2B Brett Wiley both scored unearned runs due to errors to earn the win.
Gillies and Wiley were two of four T-Bones to have two hits on the game – DH Anthony Gallas and RF Dalton Wheat
were the other two. For the RailCats, Harris and CF Anthony Cheky each had two hits.
Winnipeg 11, Fargo-Moorhead 5 – 11 Innings — Box Score
The Winnipeg Goldeyes emphatically broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the 11th inning by plating seven runs and ultimately came away with an 11-5 win against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
In the 11th, 1B/RF David Rohm initially broke the tie with a triple that scored a pair of runs and then he scored in the next at-bat when 2B Casio Grider singled. One out later, SS Maikol Gonzalez and DH Adam Heisler hit back-to-back RBI singles and LF Willie Cabrera doubled to score both Gonzalez and Heisler.
For the night, Cabrera and Rohm each had four RBI while Gonzalez and Heisler each had two hits. For the RedHawks, CF Kes Carter and 2B Ryan Pineda each also had a pair of hits.
Joplin 7, Texas 1 — Box Score
The Joplin Blasters used a five-run fourth inning to take care of the Texas AirHogs 7-1.
With the score tied at one, the first three Blasters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth each reached base to load up the bags. CF K.C. Huth’s single and LF Sean Smith’s fielder’s choice scored the first two runs and 2B Mitch Glasser’s single brought in another two. 1B Geraldo Valentin capped off the rally with a single to left field that plated Glasser.
Joplin starting pitcher Wander Perez earned the win for tossing seven innings and allowing just the one run on three hits while striking out seven. The AirHogs had just five hits in the game and 3B Cory Morales had the team’s lone RBI with a solo home run in the second innings.
St. Paul 16, Sioux City 0 — Box Score
The St. Paul Saints started the game with a four-run first inning and continued to build from there as they racked up 16 runs on 18 hits to blank the Sioux City Explorers 16-0.
Eight different Saints had hits in the game and two – LF Trever Adams and DH Tony Caldwell – each left the yard twice. Colwell finished the night with four RBI while Adams had three. Leadoff man RF Brady Burzynski went an impressive 5-for-6 with two RBI of his own and scoring three times and CF Breland Almadova added three RBI.
On the bump, starting pitcher Mark Hamburger continued his stellar season, improving to 11-0 after pitching a complete-game three hitter. Hamburger needed just 93 pitches to finish the game and 63 of those went for strikes.
