BAUM AWAY; EXPLORERS’ BAUM WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers’ INF Jay Baum (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending July 29.

Baum helped lead the Explorers to an incredible eight wins last week by hitting .500 with three doubles, one triple, one home run, and 12 RBIs. Sioux City (51-16) has now one nine straight and have a 7.5 game lead over the next best team in the American Association. The right handed slugger is currently hitting .315 with six HRs on the season and is first in the league in RBIs (63), and tied for first with six triples.

Baum began his professional career in 2014 after being drafted in the 21st round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. While in the Mariners organization, the former Clemson Tiger batted .239 with 13 HRs and 155 RBIs in three seasons, reaching double-A in 2017. This season is Baum’s second in independent ball. Last season he played for the Sussex County Miners of the Can-Am League.
