Durham, N.C. — The contract of Laredo Lemurs RHP Matt Sergey was purchased by the Oakland Athletics organization, the American Association announced on Monday.

Sergey is the third Laredo player to have his contract purchased by a major-league organization in less than three weeks, joining 3B Travis Denker (Arizona) and RHP Kyle Winkler (Tampa Bay).

In his second season with Laredo, Sergey has been dominant through his first seven starts, leading the league 52 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched to go along with an 0.82 ERA, second-best in the AA, and 4-0 record. Opposing hitters are batting just .172 against the native of Plantation, Fla.

Sergey joined the Lemurs late in the 2015 season, not allowing a run in 20 regular-season innings and helping to lead his club to the league championship. Previously, the 26-year-old spent three seasons in the Frontier League, pitching a perfect game with Washington in 2014. He played collegiately at Campbell University.
