Amarillo 7, Lincoln 6 – Box
Down 6-3 headed into the bottom of the ninth, Amarillo had one last chance against Lincoln. The Thunderheads had scored two runs in the eighth and were able to continue that momentum. Four walks in the ninth really helped the Thunderheads and put the pressure on the Saltdogs. SS Juan Martinez capped off the rally with a bases loaded-RBI single to score two. Martinez finished the game 4-for-5 from the plate with a run and two RBIs.
For Lincoln, C Ryan Wiggins went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and led his team in hitting. Starting LHP Kevin McGovern had a solid outing with seven innings pitched and just one run allowed to go with seven strikeouts.
Grand Prairie 3, Wichita 2 (10 Innings) – Box
In a nail biter, the Grand Prairie AirHogs edged out the Wichita Wingnuts by the slimmest of margins in extra innings. Wichita had a 2-0 lead for most of the game because of a two-run RBI double in the third from C John Nester. However, with the AirHogs with their backs against the wall in the ninth inning, they scored twice with two outs. 2B Jamodrick McGruder plated a run with an RBI double, and then RF Josh Eatherly scored two batters later.
In the 10th inning, Eatherly was once again a factor with the game winning-RBI single. Four AirHogs relievers combined to shutout the final five innings, and Wingnuts RHP Tim Brown started and threw seven scoreless innings.
Winnipeg at Joplin – Postponed
The game between the Goldeyes and Blasters was postponed due to rain. The two clubs will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 5:05 p.m. from Joe Becker Stadium.
Quebec 5, Sioux City 3 – Box
The Quebec Capitales avenged a loss Thursday to Sioux City by defeating the Explorers 5-3 Friday. Quebec scored three times in the second inning, which gave it the manageable cushion to maintain for the rest of the game. With the bases loaded, LF Mike Washburn brought the first run in off an RBI single. The next batter, SS Yordan Manduley, scored the second run off a fielder’s choice, and an error allowed the third run to come in. LHP Mark Hardy started and got the win after a quality start.
The Explorers made it interesting with one run in each of the final three innings but couldn’t muster enough offense. LF Tim Colwell led Sioux City in hitting with a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI.
Fargo-Moorhead 8, Sioux Falls 3 – Box
Although Fargo-Moorhead only outhit Sioux Falls 12-10, the RedHawks beat the Canaries 8-3, securing their first win of the season. The offensive showcase started in earnest in the fifth inning. From then through the eighth, multiple runs were scored in each inning. RF Joe Dunigan came through with an RBI double in the fifth for the RedHawks. LF Chad Mozingo added another RBI double in the eighth for Fargo-Moorhead. Mozingo finished the game 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs.
Sioux Falls did some damage in the sixth with two runs. DH Michael Wing’s RBI single and C Tyler Tewell’s sacrifice fly in brought the runs. 2B Vickash Ramjit led the Canaries at the plate after going 3-for-4.
Gary SouthShore 9, Kansas City 2 – Box
The Gary SouthShore RailCats defeated the Kansas City T-Bones 9-2 thanks to the big bats of CF Jon Jones and DH JD Pulfer. In the third inning, Pulfer cleared the bases with an RBI double to left and finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Jones, not wanting to be left out, cleared the bases himself in the seventh with a triple to center. He finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs.
RailCats LHP Chris Cummins recorded the win with five scoreless innings. RHP Jessie Snodgrass also pitched well for Gary SouthShore, throwing the final two innings with no runs allowed. RF Adam Bailey performed well for Kansas City, driving in two runs on 2-for-4 hitting.
St. Paul 8, Laredo 4 – Box
The St. Paul Saints got started early and kept hitting throughout the game to beat the Laredo Lemurs 8-4. RF Mike Kvasnicka kicked things off with a two-run RBI double to right field in the first inning. The next inning, CF Alonzo Harris brought in a run off his single, and DH Ian Gac drove two more in off another single. Four Saints finished with multiple hits, including all three aforementioned players.
C Luke Bailey drove in two runs for the Lemurs off a home run in the third. SS Abel Nieves led Laredo in hitting with a 3-for-5 performance, an RBI and a run. Lemurs RHP Ryan Beckman pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless ball with three strikeouts.
