AIRHOGS’ RELIEVER MATZEK PURCHASED BY BRAVES’ ORGANIZATION

MOORHEAD, MINN. – The Texas AirHogs have sold the contract of LHP Tyler Matzek to the Atlanta Braves’ organization, the American Association announced Thursday, August 15. Matzek is the 37th  American Association player to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization in 2019.

Matzek (5-4) has been excellent out of the pen for the AirHogs in 2019, posting a 2.64 ERA with 53 strikeouts and 19 walks across 30.2 innings of work. The lefty hasn’t allowed a run since July 12 (14 innings).

The 28-year-old began his professional career in 2010 after being drafted in the first round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies. Matzek spent four seasons in the minors before making his major league debut in 2014 with the Rockies. In 25 appearances with Colorado across two seasons, Matzek went 8-12 while posting a 4.06 ERA across 139.2 innings of work.
