MOORHEAD, MINN. – The Texas AirHogs have sold the contract of LHP Tyler Matzek to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the American Association announced. Matzek is the third player to have his contract sold to a Major League organization from the American Association in 2019, and 23rd since the beginning of the 2018 season.

Matzek spent the 2018 season with the AirHogs and was 3-8 with a 5.89 ERA in 22 games (14 starts). He pitched 88.2 innings and allowed 61 runs (58 earned) on 89 hits. Matzek walked 66 batters and recorded 93 strikeouts.
Matzek is a former first round (11th overall) draft pick of the Colorado Rockies out of Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, Calif. He advanced to the Major Leagues in 2014 and 2015 with the Rockies. He last pitched in affiliated baseball in 2016 with the Rockies in Double-A (Hartford) and High-A (Modesto) before sitting out the 2017 season. In his career, Matzek is 8-12 with a 4.06 ERA in 25 games (24 starts) in the Major Leagues.
