2014 ALL-STAR TEAMS ANNOUNCED

The American Association has announced the 2014 All-Star teams. The 2014 All-Star game will be played on Tuesday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m. Central time at Shaw Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba and will match a North All-Star team against a South All-Star team.

The North team is made up of players from the American Association’s North division teams, the Sioux City Explorers and Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Central division, and the Quebec Capitales and Trois-Rivieres Aigles of the Can-Am League.

The South team is made up of players from the American Association’s South division teams, the Lincoln Saltdogs and Kansas City T-Bones on the Central division, and the New Jersey Jackals and Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League.

League managers and media members voted on the starting position players. The designated hitter, utility player, backup catcher and pitchers were selected by the teams’ managers- Greg Tagert (Gary SouthShore) for the North team and Kevin Hooper (Wichita) for the South team.

The All-Star teams are listed below.

 

North All-Star Starters

Catcher: Luis Alen, Winnipeg

Alen, in his fifth season with the Goldeyes, is hitting .307 with nine doubles, three home runs and 26 RBI. He was the American Association Player of the Week for the week ending June 8.

First Base: Casey Haerther, Winnipeg 

Haerther is the American Association’s leading hitter with a .401 average, 21 doubles, seven home runs and 34 RBI. He has been named the American Association Player of the Week twice this season- for the weeks ending June 15 and July 6.

Second Base: Zac Mitchell, Gary SouthShore 

Mitchell is hitting .259 with nine doubles, a triple, 25 RBI and 14 stolen bases. He is in his second season with the RailCats.

Shortstop: Tyler Kuhn, Winnipeg 

Another Player of the Week, from the week ending May 18, Kuhn is hitting .358 with 15 doubles, three triples and three home runs while driving in 30 runs.

Third Base: Daniel Pulfer, Gary SouthShore

Pulfer is hitting .322 with seven doubles, four triples and five home runs with 37 RBI for North All-Star manager Greg Tagert’s club.

Outfield: Drew Martinez, Gary SouthShore

Martinez is in his second season with the RailCats, and the former University of Memphis Tiger is hitting .347 with ten doubles, four triples and two home runs. He has driven in 35 runs and stolen 14 bases. 

Outfield: Donnie Webb, Winnipeg

In his first season with the Goldeyes, Webb is hitting .279 with seven doubles, a triple and six home runs. He has 28 RBI and 22 stolen bases.

Outfield: Evan Bigley, St. Paul 

Bigley, a .332 hitter, is in his first season in the American Association. He has 19 doubles, five home runs and 42 RBI.

North All-Star Manager Selections

Designated Hitter: Henry Wrigley, St. Paul (.311, 7 2B, 12 HR, 46 RBI)

Utility: Ryan Pineda, Winnipeg (.302, 8 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 24 RBI)

Backup Catcher: Craig Maddox, Gary SouthShore (.331, 15 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR, 29 RBI)

South All-Star Starters

Catcher: Chris McMurray, Wichita

McMurray, in his first season behind the plate for the Wingnuts, is hitting .266 with 13 doubles, a triple and three home runs. He has 33 RBI for the first-place Wingnuts. 

First Base: Ian Gac, Lincoln

Gac, in his second season with the Saltdogs, was named the American Association Player of the Week for the week ending June 1. He is hitting .327 with 11 doubles, 11 home runs and 32 RBI.

Second Base: Travis Denker, Laredo

Denker is in his first season with the Lemurs, and was named the American Association Player of the Week for the week ending May 25. He is hitting .318 with 11 doubles, a triple and 18 home runs.

Shortstop: Devin Goodwin, Laredo 

Goodwin is in his third season in the American Association and first with the Lemurs. He is hitting .312 with 12 doubles and 13 home runs while driving in 45.

Third Base: Abel Nieves, Grand Prairie

Nieves is hitting .327 in his first season with Grand Prairie after spending 2013 with the Wichita Wingnuts. He has nine doubles, three triples and one home run while driving in 18 runs.

Outfield: Nick Van Stratten, Laredo

Van Stratten is with his first year with the Lemurs after being selected as an American Association Postseason Al-Star last year with the Sioux Falls Canaries. He is hitting .358 with 11 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 23 RBI so far in 2014. 

Outfield: Brent Clevlen, Wichita 

Clevlen is hitting .335 for the Wingnuts in his second season with the club. He has 21 doubles, two triples and seven home runs with 38 RBI. The former Major Leaguer hit .322 a year ago for Wichita. 

Outfield: Carlo Testa, Wichita 

Testa, in his first season with the Wingnuts and the American Association, is hitting .349 with 15 doubles, eight triples and four home runs. He has 36 RBI so far for Wichita.

 

South All-Star Manager Selections
