DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers RHP Patrick Johnson (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 13.
Johnson, named an American Association All-Star today, becomes the first two-time winner of the award, having previously won for the week ending June 22. The former University of North Carolina Tar Heel started two games this week, and the Explorers won both contests. On Tuesday, he faced the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park in Winnipeg, and struck out 11 over seven innings. Johnson took a no-decision as a late Sioux City rally gave them a 2-1 win.
On Sunday, Johnson faced the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at home. He logged eight innings, striking out seven and walking two. Johnson scattered four hits and one run as he picked up the victory in a 9-6 Sioux City triumph.
He is now 5-2 with a 2.64 ERA on the season. Johnson has 66 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.
The Explorers will begin a series with the Kansas City T-Bones at home on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Central time.
