DURHAM, NC – The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Wichita Wingnuts INF C.J. Ziegler (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Hitter of the Week.
Over the last six games, Ziegler has been unnaturally productive. The former University of Arizona Wildcat drove in 14 runs this week, hitting three home runs and two doubles. In addition to driving in runs, Ziegler was consistent at the plate. He hit .455 (10-for-22) for the week and only struck out twice. Ziegler also led the team in runs scored with 10.
Twice this week, Ziegler delivered three-hit performances. The first was arguably the best offensive performance by any hitter in the American Association this season. In a win over the Laredo Lemurs, Ziegler drove in seven runs and homered twice.
Later in the week, he went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in a win over Sioux City. Ziegler hit safely in every game this week, helping the Wingnuts win five out of their six contests.
