X’S SCORE EARLY, LATE, AND BEAT SALTDOGS IN MATINEE

Sioux City New

Sioux City 7, Lincoln 2- Box

A pair of big innings — a four-run second and a three-run eighth — propelled the Explorers to a 7-2 win over the Saltdogs on School Day in Sioux City. With one run already home in the second, RF Michael Lang hit a two-RBI single, and LF Jayce Ray followed with an RBI single of his own.

Ray would also score the Explorers’ fifth run of the game, coming home on 1B John Nogowski’s eighth-inning RBI single. Sioux City’s final two runs of the game scored on a two-RBI double by 2B Nick Flair.

Nogowski led Sioux City’s offensive afternoon with three hits, while Ray and Flair had two hits apiece. LHP Hobbs Johnson struck out seven while allowing just two hits and two walks over six innings, picking up the win.

For Lincoln, RF Randolph Oduber hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning.

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Cleburne 1- Box

The RedHawks broke open a pitchers’ duel with a pair of seventh-inning runs, and held off the Railroaders for a 4-1 matinee win in Cleburne. C Charlie Valerio hit a one-out single in the seventh, and 2B Ryan Pineda followed with a two-run home run to put the RedHawks up for good. 1B Mitch Delfino, who had previously notched an RBI single in the first, added another in the ninth for extra insurance.

LHP Tyler Alexander was masterful for the RedHawks, allowing just five hits in a complete game effort. He struck out six Railroaders and did not walk a batter.

For Cleburne, C Shawn Zarraga hit a solo home run in the second inning for his team’s only scoring.

Winnipeg 7, Salina 3- Box

The Goldeyes rode three-run innings in the first and the seventh to claim their second consecutive win over the Stockade by a 7-3 final score. RF David Rohm drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first, and scored when the next batter, LF Josh Romanski, hit the first of his two home runs on the day. 1B Shawn Pleffner, the defending Pointstreak Player of the Week, drove in a third run on an RBI groundout later in the frame.

A similar scenario played out in the seventh inning, as Rohm singled and was aboard for a Romanski two-run homer. Romanski and 2B Mason Katz each finished the day with two hits for Winnipeg, while RHP Mikey O’Brien struck out five over six innings for the win.

For Salina, 1B Joey Miller was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the loss.
