St. Paul 8, Sioux Falls 3 — Box Score

The St. Paul Saints scored three runs in the first half inning and never trailed from there on the way to an 8-3 win against the Sioux Falls Canaries.

1B Brady Shoemaker set the tone with a three-run home run, his second of the year, in the first inning and Starter Mark Hamburger took care of business from there. Hamburger tossed a complete game and gave up three runs (all earned) on nine hits while striking out four and giving up just two free passes. The Saints’ offense continued to back him up and 2B Tony Thomas added his third round tripper of the season in the ninth to give the Saints an 8-1 lead.

The Canaries rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth thanks to a two-RBI single from CF Dan Motl but Hamburger struck out RF Jake Taylor in the next at-bat to end the game. Both teams had three players record a pair of hits in the game including Thomas and Sioux Falls 2B/RF Patrick Fiala, who went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Gary SouthShore 10, Kansas City 7 — Box Score

The Gary SouthShore RailCats held off a late charge from the Kansas City T-Bones and added two more runs in the top of the ninth to secure a 10-7 win.

The RailCats were leading 8-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning but Kansas City rallied for three runs thanks to a three-run home from Patrick Brady to draw within one. But a strikeout and a put out in the next at-bats halted the T-Bones’ momentum. In the top of the ninth, Frank Martinez belted out an RBI double and Alex Crosby singled him home to give the RailCats a three-run cushion.

For the night, Colin Willis went 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored and Martinez also had three hits as he went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in the third. Crosby had two hits for two RBI and Anthony Cheky went 2-for-5 and scored twice. For the T-Bones, Chase McDonald went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored and both Omar Garcia and Marcus Lemon went 2-for-5. Lemon scored twice while Garcia crossed the plate once.
