Winnipeg 11, Quebec 5 – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes managed to outscore the Quebec Capitales 11-5, despite being outhit by the Capitales 15-12.
On paper, the Goldeyes capitalized on all but one of their hits. The back of the lineup actually provided most of the pop, with the six, seven, eight and nine hitters combining to go 9-18 with seven runs and 10 RBIs. 3B Josh Mazzola went 2-5 with two runs and five RBIs.
Kyle Anderson gave himself a ton of work to do en route to the win for Winnipeg. He allowed 11 hits and walked a batter, but managed to give up just four runs (three earned) during his 6.1 innings.
Rockland 9, St. Paul 4 – Box
The Rockland Boulders got the best of the St. Paul Saints in an interleague matchup, with the Boulders winning 9-4. Rockland put up 14 hits and scored two runs in the 4th, three in the 5th and four in the 7th.
To back the solid offensive performance, Rockland starter Sean Bierman threw a complete game. He worked around ten hits and one walk throughout the game and struck out three St. Paul batters while allowing four earned runs.
Four different Rockland batters had multi-hit games, with RF Ryan Stovall and DH Will Walsh pacing the team. Each of the two went 3-5 with an RBI and Walsh hit his first triple of the season.
Wichita 5, Fargo-Moorhead 1 – Box
The Wichita Wingnuts limited the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to just four hits and picked up a 5-1 victory in the process.
Wichita starter Jon Link threw 7.1 solid innings, striking out seven batters and walking one on 95 pitches.
Five Wingnut batters had two-hit nights. DH J.T. Wise and 3B Chris McClendon led the team offensively out of the six and seven spots in the lineup, with Wise homering for the fourt and fifth time of the season and McClendon picking up his fifth double.
Lincoln Saltdogs 4, Gary SouthShore 2 – Box
The Lincoln Saltdogs doubled up the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-2 Friday night, thanks to a solid effort from the pitching staff.
Zach Varce started the game off on the hill for Lincoln and threw six innings while giving up a single (unearned) run. After that, Trey Barham, Jhonny Montoya and Marshall Schuler combined to throw the final three innings and gave up just one run and three hits.
1B Chris Anderson doubled twice in the game, walked once, scored twice and also drove in a run for the Saltdogs.
Grand Prairie 8, Amarillo 5 – Box
The Grand Prairie AirHogs jumped onto the scoreboard immediately against the Amarillo Sox with four runs in the first inning. The AirHogs would go on to win 8-5 thanks in part to a great effort from the bullpen.
Brett Wallach, TyRelle Harris and Dakota Watts threw the final 2.1 innings for the AirHogs and shutout the Sox the entire way. The three combined to allow just one hit and one walk.
2B Alex Nunez paced Grand Praire offensively, with a three-hit performance out of the seven spot. He also drove in three runs.
Sioux City 7, Sioux Falls 5 – Box
Sioux City and Sioux Falls each managed 10 hits against eachother, but the Explorers managed to outscore the Canaries 7-5.
The Explorers scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and managed another three in the eighth. SS Nate Samson had a 2-3 night with a home run and RF Dillon Usiak went 2-4 with his third double of the season.
Jimmer Kennedy picked up the win for the Explorers after 2.1 perfect innings of relief work.
Kansas City 8, Laredo 5 – Box
The Kansas City T-Bones scored eight runs and beat the Laredo Lemurs 8-5 on the back of an offensive performance from DH Byron Wiley.
Wiley led Kansas City with three hits inlcluding his second triple of the season. In addition to that, Wiley drove in four runs and scored twice on his own, accounting for six of the T-Bones’ eight runs.
Starting pitcher Rick Zagone grabbed the win for Kansas City after six solid innings, where he let up three runs on nine hits. Sagone struck out two Laredo batters and walked one on 100 total pitches (70 strikes).
