WINGNUTS WALK OFF WITH MITTELSTAEDT’S BLAST

Wichita 5, Joplin 4 — Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts rallied from a four run deficit in the final three frames and walked off on the Joplin Blasters 5-4 with a solo home run from LF T.J. Mittelstaedt.

The Blasters built a 4-0 lead with three runs in the second inning and another in the fifth. But the Wingnuts cut into that lead with two runs in the seventh and then tied the score with a two-run single from CF Harrison Kain. In the bottom of the ninth, with the score tied at 4-4, Mittelstaedt belted out a solo shot on a full count with two away.

1B Matt Chavez led the Wingnuts with three hits and for the Blasters, 1B Geraldo Valentin went 3-for-5 with an RBI.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 4, Kansas City 0 — Box Score

Starting pitcher Tyler Alexander went the distance and shutout the Kansas City T-Bones, setting up the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks for a 4-0 win.

Alexander faced just 31 batters on the night as he gave up five hits and no walks. He struck out eight batters and 91 of his 134 pitches went for strikes. The win gives him 12 on the season. The RedHawks backed him up with four runs, one each in four different innings. Both CF Kes Carter and RF K.D. Kang had two hits and Carter added a pair of runs scored.

Fort the T-Bones, five different batters each had one hit.

 

Laredo 2, Texas 1 — Box Score

The Laredo Lemurs worked pasted the Texas AirHogs 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel.

The AirHogs took the lead in the top of the first inning when DH Leon Byrd scored on a single from RF Cody Lenahan but that would be the final Texas run of the game. The Lemurs tied the score in the bottom of the fifth as 3B Abel Nieves scored an unearned run and then took the lead in the seventh when 2B/3B J.D. Pulfer drew a bases-loaded walk to score Nieves again.

Startingpitcher Zach Dodson picked up the win for working six innings and allowing six hits while striking out five. Reliever Jeff Inman sealed the win and earned the save by working the ninth and striking out two more.

 

Sioux City 11, Lincoln 4 – 5 Innings/Rain Shortened — Box Score

The rain shortened Sioux City’s 11-4 win against the Lincoln Saltdogs to just five innings but the game was called as a completion.

The Saltdogs struck first but the Explorers rallied back with seven runs in the bottom of the second and three more in the third to take a 10-3 lead. Sioux City added another run in the fourth, scoring in three of the four innings they went to the plate. The Explorers racked up 11 hits from seven different batters including three from C Ralph Henriquez. LF Derrick Robinson and RF Michael Lang each added a pair of hits.

For the Saltdogs, 3B Luis Alen went 2-for-3 with a home run.
