WINGNUTS EDGE LEMURS IN SOUTH DIVISION MATCHUP

Wichita 9, Laredo 8- Box

With runs in seven of their eight offensive innings, the Wingnuts used a 13-hit attack to take a 9-8 win over their South Division rival Lemurs. With the score tied at 8-8 in the bottom of the eighth inning, 3B Zack Cox hit a leadoff home run to give Wichita the boost it needed to secure the win. The homer was Wichta’s second of the game, as DH Brent Clevlen hit one to open the scoring in the first inning. CF Harrison Kain also had a big night for Wichita, finishing 3-for-3 with three RBI. Two of those RBI came on a two-run double in the fifth, a frame in which the Wingnuts pushed across three runs. LF T.J. Mittelstaedt also had three-hit night for Wichita.

RHP Seth Harvey struck out the side in the eighth inning, and picked up the win. The save went to LHP Frankie Reed, who worked a scoreless ninth.

DH Leandro Castro hit his fourth home run of the year for Laredo in the loss. 

Texas 3, Lincoln 2 (Doubleheader Game One- 7 innings)- Box

The AirHogs plated a pair of runs in the home half of the sixth inning to sneak past the Saltdogs 3-2 in the opener of a twinbill. After 2B Brian Bistagne drew a leadoff walk, 1B Devon Rodriguez launched his second home run of the season to turn a one-run deficit into a one-run lead. Texas’ first run also came via the long ball, as RF Cody Lenahan hit his third of the year in the second inning. Lenahan had two of Texas’ seven hits in the win.

RHP Cody Hebner struck out four in six innings, earning the win. The save went to RHP Alan Oaks, who worked a scoreless seventh.

For Lincoln, 1B Curt Smith was 2-for-4 with both of his team’s RBI.

Texas 8, Lincoln 4 (Doubleheader Game Two- 7 innings)- Box

Texas scored three runs in the second and four in the fourth as the AirHogs cruised past Lincoln 8-4 in the nightcap of the teams’ doubleheader. After two runs had already scored in the fourth, RF Cody Lenahan delivered a two-RBI double. 1B David Rodriguez notched an RBI single in the seventh to close out the scoring for the AirHogs. Lenahan was 3-for-4 in the win, falling just a home run shy of the cycle.

RHP Tyler Harris tossed 5.2 solid innings for the win for Texas, while RHP Carlos Misell recorded the final four outs for the save.

DH Curt Smith was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI for Lincoln.

St. Paul 4, Joplin 3 (Completion of Suspended Game from 7/5)- Box

Four first-inning runs proved to be just enough for the Saints as St. Paul completed Tuesday’s suspended game and picked up a 4-3 win over Joplin. After a sacrifice fly from 1B Angelo Songco, LF Willie Argo collected a two-RBI single to put St. Paul up 3-0. The frame’s last run came across when C Aaron Gretz hit a sacrifice fly of his own. The offensive story of the day for St. Paul was RF Brady Burzynski, who went 3-for-5. Additionally, SS Tony Thomas was 2-for-4 with his 15th double of the season.

With five strikeouts in six innings, RHP Robert Coe picked up the win for St. Paul. RHP Ryan Rodebaugh fanned a pair in a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.

For Joplin, CF Oscar Mesa was 3-for-5 out of the leadoff spot, picking up two doubles.

St. Paul 3, Joplin 2 (Regularly Scheduled Game)- Box

The Saints capped off a sweep of the day thanks to runs in three straight innings — the second, third and fourth — en route to a 3-2 win over the Blasters. DH Tony Caldwell hit an RBI single in the second, and 1B Angelo Songco scored on the play. Songco checked in with an RBI single of his own in the third, but Joplin would tie the game at 2-2 in the fourth. St. Paul was quick to answer, though, with an RBI single from CF Alonzo Harris pushing the Saints to the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Harris had a big night out of the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4.

RHP John Straka pitched a very strong 7.1 innings, allowing just two runs and striking out six, earning the win. The save went to RHP Ryan Rodebaugh, who threw a scoreless ninth.

Joplin C Charlie Valerio hit a two-run homer to account for his team’s scoring in the fourth.

Sioux Falls 7, Kansas City 4- Box

A quick start for the Canaries — five runs in the first two innings — helped them to a 7-4 home win over the T-Bones. SS Blake Schmit led off the bottom of the first with a home run, and a four-run second followed. C Nolan Johnson drove in a pair on a single, and 2B Darwin Perez had an RBI single of his own. 1B David Bergin blasted a solo home run in the fifth, and RF J.C. Linares capped the scoring with an RBI single in the seventh.

Schmit, Linares and Johnson had two hits apiece for the Canaries. LHP Joe Bircher struck out five in six innings to pick up the win, while RHP Madison Boer worked a scoreless ninth for the save.

DH Anthony Gallas hit his ninth home run for Kansas City in the loss.

Gary SouthShore 5, Winnipeg 1- Box

A four-run fifth inning backed up strong RailCats pitching as Gary SouthShore captured a 5-1 win over the Goldeyes. 2B Randy Santiesteban drove in the inning’s first run on an RBI single, and CF Brennan Metzger drew a bases-loaded walk to push home another. The next batter, RF Tillman Pugh came through with a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0. An RBI single by LF Matt Petrone in the seventh scored Gary SouthShore’s final run. Pugh not only had the big hit of the day for the RailCats, he was the lone player with a multi-hit game.

On the mound, RHP Karl Triana allowed just one run on three hits, striking out seven and earning the win.

1B Jacob Rogers was 2-for-4 for Winnipeg.

Fargo-Moorhead 15, Sioux City 8- Box

An offensive explosion paved the way for the RedHawks to roll past the Explorers 15-8 in Sioux City. LF Brian Humphries opened the scoring with a two-RBI single in the first, and RF Keury De La Cruz blew the game open with a bases-clearing double in the fourth. C Luke Bailey blasted a two-run home run in the sixth, his fourth of the year for Fargo-Moorhead. Four more runs came across in the seventh inning, including a two-RBI triple from CF Kes Carter. De La Cruz finished with a 3-for-5 night and four RBI, while Humphries had two hits and three RBI.

RHP Cody Scarpetta struck out 10 Explorers in six innings, picking up the win.

For Sioux City, 2B Jerek Cunningham hit his fourth home run of the season.
