WINGNUTS’ CAPRA CARRIES NO-HIT BID INTO NINTH INNING

Wichita Wingnuts LHP Anthony Capra (pictured) carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning in a 2-0 win over the Kansas City T-Bones Wednesday night. With one out in the top of the ninth inning, Capra allowed a single to Kansas City DH Nick Garraputo. Capra was pulled after the hit, having thrown 139 pitches. He went eight and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs on the one hit while striking out nine to pick up the win. RHP Matt Nevarez came in and got the final two outs, earning a save. Nevarez walked one and struck out another.

The Wingnuts scored in the bottom of the sixth inning when 2B Jake Kahaulelio doubled home RF David Amberson with no outs, and DH Mike Hernandez followed with a one-out RBI fielder’s choice to score SS Ryan Khoury. Kahaulelio was 2-for-4 on the game, the only hitter with a multi-hit night.

St. Paul 8, Sioux City 5Box

The St. Paul Saints earned the 1,001st win in their club history thanks to a comeback effort against the host Sioux City Explorers. The Saints trailed 5-2 after three innings, but two-run frames in the fourth, sixth and ninth pushed St. Paul to victory.

Eight of the nine St. Paul starters collected a hit in the contest, with SS Joey Becker going 2-for-3. 3B Joe Bonfe made his one hit count, as he had a home run for the Saints, his first of the season, and finished the night with three RBI.

All four Explorers infielders had two-hit games- 2B Andres Perez, 3B Mark Sobolewski, 1B Tommy Mendonca and SS Nate Samson. DH Luke Murton hit a double and finished with two RBI.

Saints RHP Dylan Thomas earned the win in relief, allowing one hit and no runs in two innings with no walks and a strikeout. RHP Dan Sattler picked up his second save for the Saints, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

Fargo-Moorhead vs. Amarillo 

The game between the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Amarillo Sox was suspended due to weather in the fourth inning and subsequently cancelled. Since the two teams do not meet again, the game will not be made up.
