WILEY’S BIG NIGHT KEY FOR K.C. IN ROAD WIN

Kansas City 4, Wichita 2Box

Kansas City T-Bones LF Byron Wiley (pictured) led off the game with a home run and never looked back, going 3-for-5 in a 4-2 win over the host Wichita Wingnuts. Wiley fell a single shy of the cycle, as he hit a double in the seventh inning and an RBI triple in the ninth.

Wichita scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on RBI singles from LF Carlo Testa and RF David Amberson, giving the Wingnuts a 2-1 lead. Kansas City took the lead for good with RBI singles from RF Bryan Sabatella and 3B Nick Garraputo in the eighth inning before Wiley padded the lead with his ninth-inning triple.

Testa and Amberson both went 2-for-4 for Wichita, while Wiley was the lone T-Bone with a multi-hit game.

Kansas City starter Daniel Barone picked up a no-decision, so RHP Chris Squires earned the win in relief as he retired all three hitters he faced.

Amarillo 9, Fargo-Moorhead 2Box

A quick start helped push the host Sox past the visiting RedHawks on Tuesday evening. Amarillo struck for three runs in the bottom of the first off of a 2-RBI single from 3B Kevin Mahoney and an RBI single by RF Lyndon Estill.

Leading 3-1 going into the bottom of the 8th, the Sox broke the game open with a six-run frame. Mahoney laced an RBI double, and LF Joe Weik hit a 2-RBI single in the inning. DH Cory Patton went 3-for-5 for the Sox, and Mahoney was 2-for-4 with three RBI. CF Nic Jackson and RF Brandon Newton both had 2-for-4 games for Fargo-Moorhead

Joe Zeller earned the win for the Sox, allowing one run on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts over seven innings.

Gary SouthShore 5, Sioux Falls 4Box

DH Wally Backman scored the winning run in the top of eighth inning to give his RailCats a 5-4 road triumph. Backman, who was 3-for-4 in the game, reached on a leadoff double and scored on an RBI single from 1B Jeremy Hamilton.

Backman’s run answered a Sioux Falls comeback attempt which tied the game at 4-4 after seven. CF Chris Valencia hit a sacrifice fly to plate C Kevin Dultz. The host Canaries pounded out nine hits, but only DH Chris Duffy had a multi-hit (2-for-4) game. Aside from Backman, LF Josh Romanski was 2-for-4 for Gary.

Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision in the game, as RHP Kagen Hopkins picked up the win for Gary. He threw two and 1/3 innnings of scoreless relief, allowing only two hits.

Winnipeg 7, Laredo 1Box

Current American Association Player of the Week SS Tyler Kuhn was one of three Winnipeg Goldeyes to record a multi-hit game in their 7-1 triumph over the Laredo Lemurs. Kuhn was 2-for-4 in the game, joining LF Ray Sadler (2-for-5) and CF Reggie Abercrombie (2-for-4) in the multi-hit category.

The Goldeyes scored first when 2B Jake Blackwood hit a two-run home run in the top of the first, and would add another run in the inning. Two more runs scored for Winnipeg in the third, and Laredo got on the board in the fifth. Winnipeg added single runs in the seventh and eighth to lock up the game.

Laredo RF Harrison Kain was 3-for-5 on the night. The Lemurs outhit the Goldeyes, 11-10, but it was Winnipeg who used timely hitting to pick up the win. Goldeyes starter Kyle Anderson went five and 1/3 innings, allowing one run on seven hits with only one walk and no strikeouts.
