SALTDOGS TOP AIRHOGS IN TIGHT GAME

Lincoln 4, Grand Prairie 2Box

For the second day in a row, the Lincoln Saltdogs and Grand Prairie AirHogs played a tightly contested midday game in Grand Prairie.

Lincoln struck first in the top of the third inning when SS Maikol Gonzalez singled home DH Eddie Young. The very next batter, 2B Trevor Martin, had an RBI single of his own, driving in C Chris Anderson. Grand Prairie scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game. RF Michael Hur drove in C Vince DiFazio on an RBI single in the fifth, and CF Eric Baker hit into an RBI fielder’s choice in the sxith, scoring DH Jason Botts.

The Saltdogs went ahead on a pair of RBI doubles in eighth, one from 3B Kevin Howard to plate 1B Ian Gac and another from LF Chad Mozingo to score Howard.

Gonzalez (2-for-5), Mozingo (2-for-4) and Young (2-for-3) all had multi-hit games for the Saltdogs. Two AirHogs, 2B Brandon Pinckney (2-for-5) and LF Palmer Karr (2-for-3), had multi-hit games.

Neither starter factored in the decision of the game. RHP TJ Bozeman earned the win for Lincoln in relief, allowing no runs on one hit in two innings. RHP Marshall Schuler worked around a walk and a hit to throw a scoreless ninth, picking up his second save of the year.

Laredo 18, Winnipeg 5Box

A nine-run third inning was enough to carry the Laredo Lemurs past the visiting Winnipeg Goldyes on Wednesday morning. The Lemurs roughed up Winnipeg starter RHP Jason Jarvis, who was saddled with the loss. Jarvis allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 10 hits and a walk in only two and 2/3 innings.

In the 14-batter third for Laredo, 2B Travis Denker and C Angel Flores both hit three-run home runs.

Winnipeg scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to cut the deficit to five, but Laredo put the game away by scoring in four consecutive innings. The Lemurs scored one run in the fifth and sixth, two in the seventh and five in eighth.

Flores was 3-for-5 on the game, as was SS Devin Goodwin for the Lemurs.

Laredo starter RHP Mike Piazza earned the win, going six innings and allowing seven hits, four runs, all of which were earned, with one walk and three strikeouts.
