September 3 Evening Recap

Kansas City 11, St. Paul 8 – Box

Kansas City stays alive in the wild card race as they score four runs over their final two frames to rally from an 8-7 deficit and beat St. Paul, 11-8. The bottom of order led the offensive charge for the T-Bones as LF Kyle Petty, C Zane Chavez and DH Tucker Pennell went a combined 6-for-11 at the plate with a home run (Petty), four RBI and six runs scored. Kansas City SS Niko Vasquez added a third-inning blast while leadoff hitter Cedric Hunter collected a pair of hits in six at-bats with a run scored and a RBI.

T-Bones pitcher Rich Mascheri allowed an unearned run in an inning of work to nab his fourth victory of the year. Mascheri gave up three hits and struck out one in the five batters faced.

For St. Paul, DH Brady Shoemaker had a 1-for-4 night at the dish with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI.

Gary SouthShore 2, Lincoln 1 (10 Innings) – Box

Gary SouthShore kept their playoff hopes alive as they edged the Lincoln Saltdogs in 10 innings by a 2-1 score. After trading runs in the fourth inning to make it a 1-1 score, neither team would plate a run until the bottom of the 10th. RailCats CF Chase Harris led off the frame with a single. The next batter, 1B Alex Crosby, walked to advance Harris to second base. Gary SouthShore RF Reggie Wilson then bounced a grounder to 2B Juan Martinez who tossed it to SS Christian Ibarra for an out. Ibarra threw the relay to first base wide of the bag allowing Harris to come in with the winning run.

RailCats RF Colin Willis and SS Ryan Fitzgerald each had 2-for-4 nights at the plate while reliever Jorge De Leon tossed two scoreless innings to collect his ninth win of the season.

Sioux Falls 6, Sioux City 1 – Box

The Sioux Falls Canaries pounded out 12 hits in the contest and rolled to a 6-1 victory over Sioux City.  Sioux Falls had four batters with multi-hit games including RF Jabari Henry who went 3-for-5 with three home runs, three runs scored and four RBI. Henry now has 29 home runs on the season and is one shy of tying the league record for most home runs in a season. Canaries 1B Chris Jacobs added a solo blast, his 20th of the year, while leadoff hitter Dan Motl collected a pair of hits and scored a run.

Sioux Falls starting pitcher Bo Hellquist tossed eight terrific innings in earning his fourth win of the season. Hellquist gave up an earned run on five hits and struck out five batters.

For Sioux City in the losing effort, 3B Eudor Garcia went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Cleburne 5, Texas 3 – Box

The Cleburne Railroaders scored four runs in the eighth inning to rally from a 3-1 deficit and beat Texas by the score of 5-3. Cleburne had seven hits in the contest and was led by leadoff hitter Maikol Gonzalez who went 3-for-5 with a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored. Railroaders DH Nick Van Stratten added a sacrifice fly and a run scored while RF Blake Grant-Parks contributed a hit in three at-bats and a run batted in.

Cleburne starter Patrick Mincey gave up three earned runs in seven innings of work to notch his 10th win of the season. Mincey gave a walk and nine hits to along with five strikeouts.

For Texas, 2B Alvaro Rondon had a solid night at the plate going 4-for-5 with three RBI and his league record 59th stolen base of the season.
