Winnipeg Goldeyes outfielder Max Murphy and Gary SouthShore RailCats starter Andres Diaz won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the week for the week ending 6/2, the league announced Monday.
Murphy had a banner week at the plate, going 13-for-26 (.500) in six games with two home runs, two doubles, 11 RBI and four walks to go along with eight runs scored.
Sunday capped off a great week for the Goldeyes’ slugger as he drove in three with three hits including a homer in Winnipeg’s blowout 15-2 victory over Lincoln.
The former player of the year is in his fourth season in Winnipeg after previously playing with the St. Paul Saints and spending time in both the Minnesota Twins’ and Arizona Diamondbacks’ organizations.
On the pitching side, Diaz was lights out against the reigning champion Kansas City Monarchs on Thursday night, going seven one-hit innings while walking one and striking out seven, picking up the victory.
It was just his second start of the season after making his first seven appearances out of the bullpen.
The native Venezuelan is in his first year of American Association baseball after spending the last five seasons in the Kansas City Royals organization.
Pointstreak is the official statistician of the American Association.
