O’Grady & Matulovich Dominate, Named Players of the Week

Cleburne Railroaders outfielder Brian O’Grady and Winnipeg Goldeyes starter Joey Matulovich won the American Association’s Pointstreak batter and pitcher of the week for the week ending 6/9, the league announced Monday.

O’Grady helped lead the Railroaders to a six-game series victory at home against Gary SouthShore this week. In six games, O’Grady went 11-for-26 (.423) with four home runs, two doubles and 16 RBI, by far the most in the league.

O’Grady had nine RBI in just two games in Cleburne’s whopping 23-4 and 18-3 wins on Thursday and Friday night respectively, with a grand slam on Thursday.

The slugger is in his second season of American Association baseball after playing 57 games with Kansas City in 2023 and walking off the Miles Wolff Cup Final. He has major league experience with the Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Rays and San Diego Padres.

On the pitching side, what a week it was for Matulovich. Making two starts this week, the right-hander went 2-0 and allowed just one earned run in 15 total innings, striking out 22.

He started the week pitching six strong, shutout innings against Kane County with eight strikeouts. Then he went on the road in Milwaukee and helped the Goldeyes win the series with a complete game on Sunday, striking out 14 Milkmen.

This is year two for Matulovich in Winnipeg after having a solid 2023 with a 3.78 ERA in 20 starts. He previously spent five seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
