Fargo-Moorhead 3, Winnipeg 2 — Box Score
Catcher Charlie Valerio’s fifth inning blast erased a 2-0 deficit and proved to be enough offense for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks to claim a 3-2 victory against the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Winnipeg took an early lead after LF Adam Heisler scored RF Brady Wilson with a single in the top of the first inning. The Goldeyes doubled that lead in the third, this time Wilson scored as Heisler reached on an error. But that lead 2-0 lead was erased with one swing when Valerio’s home run scored DH Joe Staley, who reached on a lead-off walk, and CF Drew Muren, who reached on a fielder’s choice.
For the Goldeyes, 2B Brad Boyer had a team-high two hits.
Kansas City 5, Wichita 4 — Box Score
The Kansas City T-Bones rallied out of a four-run deficit with five runs in the seventh and eighth innings to beat the Wichita Wingnuts 5-4.
The Wingnuts held a 4-0 lead going into the seventh inning before the T-Bones bats’ came to life. LF Adam Bailey doubled to score 1B Nate Tenbrink in the bottom of the seventh for the T-Bones’ first run of the afternoon. Kansas City followed that up in the eight as SS Vladamir Frias scored on a sacrifice fly and 3B Jake Blackwood belted a three-run home run to put his team out in front.
For the Wingnuts, 1B Dustin Geiger had a team-high three hits while both CF Jayce Ray and LF Joash Brodin had two hits and an RBI.
Joplin 6, Lincoln 2 — Box Score
The Joplin Blasters put on a late surge to take care of the Lincoln Saltdogs 6-2 and sweep the three-game series.
Lincoln got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when 2B Eddie Young lead off with a single and scored on a sacrifice fly from DH Mitch Canham. CF Matt Forgatch scored on a single from 1B Jeremy Hamilton later in the inning to give the Saltdogs a 2-0 lead. But the Blasters’ pitching staff made sure those were the only runs Lincoln would score on the afternoon.
The Blasters scored a run in the sixth inning and then took the lead in the eighth behind a solo shot from RF Jesus Solorzano and a sac fly by CF Oscar Mesa. Joplin put the game away with three more insurance runs in the top of the ninth.
Amarillo 6, Laredo 1 — Box Score
The Amarillo Thunderheads matched the Laredo Lemurs early offense and then some as they went on to take a 6-1 win at Potter County Memorial Stadium.
The Lemurs scored in the top of the first on a single from 3B Juan Silverio that plated RF Kevin Taylor but that was Laredo’s only run of the game. The Thunderheads responded in the bottom of the frame when two players scored on an error after a 1B Rene Leveret single. Amarillo kept things going in the second as RF Chad Bunting led off with a solo home run and C Jordan Guida and 3B Taylor Smart scored on back-to-back sacrifice flies from 2B Geraldo Valentin and LF Drew Heid.
Amarillo added an insurance run in the seventh. Starting pitcher Anthony Figliolia earned the win as he went seven innings and allowed the one earned run on six hits. He walked just one and struck out two.
