DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that St. Paul Saints OF Willie Cabrera (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending August 18.

Despite the Saints currently riding a franchise-record nine-game losing streak, Cabrera was 9-for-19 this past week with five home runs. The week was highlighted by Tuesday night’s game at the Winnipeg Goldeyes in which all three of Cabrera’s hits were home runs. He had two solo home runs and a two-run blast as well, driving in four. In the series finale on Thursday, Cabrera hit another home run, a three-run homer in the third inning. After a 2-for-4 game on Friday against the Can-Am League’s New Jersey Jackals, Cabrera homered again on Sunday. He was 3-for-4 with two RBI in the Jackals’ series-ending win.

Cabrera upped his home run total from five to 10 with the big week. He is now hitting .328 on the season with 18 doubles and 31 RBI to go along with the 10 homers.

The Saints will look to get out of their funk on Monday when they open a road series at the Gary SouthShore RailCats at 7:10 p.m. from the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary, Indiana. That game, like every American Association and Can-Am League game, will be broadcast live and for free on www.independentprofessionalbaseball.com from InnovaTV.
