HERNANDEZ WINS SECOND AMERICAN ASSOCIATION PITCHER OF THE WEEK AWARD

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Winnipeg Goldeyes LHP Nick Hernandez (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 17.

This is the second such honor for Hernandez, who also won for the week ending June 29. The former University of Tennessee Volunteer was the American Association Pitcher of the Month for June as well.

Hernandez made two starts this past week and earned two wins. On Tuesday, he faced the St. Paul Saints at home and threw eight innings, allowing four runs on five hits but walked none and struck out four. The Goldeyes won the game 6-4. He returned to the mound on Sunday and threw seven shutout innings in the Goldeyes’ 14-0 drubbing of the Sioux Falls Canaries. He struck out six while scattering two hits and two walks.

On the season, Hernandez now has an ERA of 3.34 to go with a 10-2 record. He has struck out 84 and walked only 19 in 105 innings pitched.

Winnipeg opens an interleague home series against the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central at Shaw Park in Winnipeg. That game, like every American Association and Can-Am League game, will be broadcast on www.independentprofessionalbaseball.com from InnovaTV.
