Kansas City 8, Gary SouthShore 0 – Box
Kansas City starting pitcher Luis Paula and three relievers combined for a four-hit shutout as the T-Bones defeated Gary SouthShore, 8-0. Paula went the first six innings of the contest in which he allowed a walk and two hits to go with six strikeouts in an 85-pitch outing. The bullpen trio of Rich Mascheri, Grant Sides and Jackson Lowery each tossed an inning of relief and gave up a combined two hits. Paula notched the win and is now 6-2 on the season. Offensively for Kansas City, RF Dexter Kjerstad went 3-for-5 with two runs scored while 1B Kevin Keyes scored twice and added a pair of hits in a 2-for-3 night. With the victory, Kansas City is now tied with the RailCats for the wild card lead.
Winnipeg 5, Sioux Falls 2 – Box
The Winnipeg Goldeyes plated three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and defeat Sioux Falls by the score of 5-2. Right fielder Josh Romanski led the way offensively for Winnipeg going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Goldeyes 1B Shawn Pleffner had a 2-for-4 night with a RBI while LF Casey Turgeon drew a pair of walks and scored twice. Winnipeg pitcher Victor Capellan threw 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick-up his fourth win of the season. Capellan struck out one in the six batters he faced.
For Sioux Falls in the losing effort, CF Dan Motl went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored.
Fargo-Moorhead 11 St. Paul 3 – Box
It was all Fargo-Moorhead in this one as the RedHawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play and rolled to an 11-3 victory over St. Paul. Fargo-Moorhead collected 11 hits as team and was led by 3B Josh Mazzola who went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBI. RedHawks DH Chris Grayson also launched a blast in a 2-for-5 night while CF/SS Yhoxian Medina added three hits, two runs and a pair of RBI. Fargo-Moorhead starting pitcher Tyler Herron tossed seven solid innings en route to his eighth win of the year. Herron gave up two earned runs on eight hits and struck out nine Saints batters. The victory by the RedHawks puts them only ½ game behind Kansas City and Gary SouthShore in the race for the wildcard.
Lincoln 5, Sioux City 4 – Box
Designated hitter Brent Dean launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie and carry Lincoln to a 5-4 win over Sioux City. The Saltdogs racked up 11 hits in the contest with four batters having multi-hit games. Dean had two hits on the night with two runs scored and two RBI while 1B Curt Smith added a pair of hits and a RBI in a 2-for-4 game. Lincoln pitcher Fabio Martinez threw a scoreless eighth inning of relief to notch his second win of the season. The victory by the Saltdogs was their sixth straight over the Explorers.
For Sioux City in the losing effort, LF LeVon Washington went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
Texas 6, Wichita 5 – Box
Texas CF Casio Grider’s RBI double in the sixth inning was the difference in the game as they beat Wichita by a 6-5 final. The AirHogs had rolled out to a 5-0 lead after one inning of play before Wichita plated four runs over the next three innings to cut the deficit to one at 5-4. Grider’s double in the sixth made it 6-4 Texas and that would be enough as the Wingnuts would score only one more run the rest of the contest. AirHogs 3B Ryne Willard led the way offensively going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Texas starting pitcher T.J. Bozeman evened his mark at 6-6 on the season with the big victory. Bozeman allowed five earned runs on 10 hits.
Cleburne 3, Salina 0 – Box
Cleburne starting pitcher Laetten Galbraith tossed seven solid innings in leading the Railroaders to a 3-0 victory over the Salina Stockade. Galbraith allowed only a walk and four hits to go with a strikeout in a 89-pitch effort. The bullpen duo of Cortland Cox and Winston Abreu each tossed an inning of relief giving up a combined three hits with a strikeout. Galbraith earned his third victory while Abreu notched his 22nd save. Offensively for Cleburne, DH Nick Van Stratten led the way going 2-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and a RBI. The Railroaders scored one run in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth.
