STRINGER’S WALKOFF SECURES FIRST WICHITA WIN

Wichita 3, Lincoln 2 – Box

 Christian Stringer’s (pictured) walkoff single scored Harrison Kain in the bottom of the ninth to seal the Wichita Wingnuts’ 3-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. The win was the first of the season for Wichita. Wingnuts’ starter Tim Brown had an excellent outing going eight innings, holding the Saltdogs to just two runs on five hits as reliever Frankie Reed earned the win out the bullpen. Lincoln jumped out to an early lead in the second inning scoring two runs. In the game, each team had six hits. Saltdogs’ C Ryan Wiggins was 1-for-2 in the game with a double and two RBI.

Sioux Falls 10, Sioux City 6 – Box

 The Sioux Falls Canaries won their third game in a row defeating the Sioux City Explorers 10-6. Canaries’ 1B David Bergin led the offense at the plate going 4-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored. Reliever Kris Regas earned the win out of the bullpen recording a scoreless inning in the seventh. The game was tied 4-4 until the seventh inning when Sioux Falls scored five runs to take the lead. The Explorers outhit the Canaries 13-12 as SS Nate Samson and 3B Tommy Mendonca each had three hits in the game.

Joplin 6, Winnipeg 5 Box

Joplin Blasters’ 2B Mitch Glasser hit a walkoff single to cap a three run bottom of the ninth comeback to defeat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 6-5. Joplin 1B Jake Taylor went 3-for-4 and RF Aaron Brill went 2-for-5 in the victory. Reliever Keith Picht earned the win in relief throwing two innings and giving up just one earned run. Trailing 3-0 after the third inning, the Goldeyes would score five runs over the next six innings to take the lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. Four different Goldeyes had two hits in the ballgame as both clubs had 11 hits in the contest. Winnipeg 1B Jacob Rogers homered for the second night in a row.

Texas 9, Kansas City 3 – Box

 Texas AirHogs’ RF Kenny Peoples-Walls went 4-5 with 3 RBI and two runs scored to lead the AirHogs to their first victory of the season over Kansas City by a 9-3 final. AirHogs’ starter Ethan Carnes received the win pitching 5.1 innings, surrendering only one earned run on five hits and struck out four batters. In the victory, Texas outhit Kansas City 18-7. For the T-Bones, 3B Brandon Tierney went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

 

Fargo-Moorhead 1, Laredo 0 (13 innings)– Box

 A solo home run from Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks’ C Luke Bailey to leadoff the top of the 13th inning proved to be the difference in the RedHawks’ 1-0 victory over the Laredo Lemurs. Starter Tyler Herron was given a no-decision on the mound despite throwing 8.1 scoreless innings and scattering just five hits as reliever Tyler Stirewalt pitched a scoreless frame in the 12th to collect the win on the mound. The Lemurs outhit the RedHawks 7-3, as CF Drew Martinez and LF Ty Morrison each had two hits to lead the offense.

 

St. Paul 18, Gary SouthShore 8 – Box

 The St. Paul Saints defeated the Gary SouthShore RailCats 18-8 behind a 20 hit offensive output to secure their third win of the season. Six different Saints had multiple hits in the game as the club jumped out to a 13-0 lead after the third inning. Starter Jeff Shields received the win pitching six innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits. For Gary SouthShore, 3B Jose Sermo homered in the contest, going 2-for-5 with four RBI.
