Texas 6, Kansas City 3- Box

The AirHogs earned a split of the season-opening series with the T-Bones by taking a 6-3 win on Sunday afternoon. RF Kenny Peoples-Walls opened the scoring with an RBI double in the top of the third for Texas, and CF Michael Hur followed with a two-run home run. The blast was part of a 3-for-5 game for Hur, joining C Michael Miller (2-for-4) as AirHogs with multiple hits on the afternoon.

RHP Palmer Betts struck out three in five and a third innings of work to earn the win for Texas, and RHP Alan Oaks worked a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.

For Kansas City, 2B Brett Wiley was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Lincoln 9, Wichita 6- Box

The Saltdogs built an 8-1 lead and withstood a Wingnuts rally to earn a 9-6 win in Sunday’s series finale in Wichita. After a three-run first, 3B Christian Ibarra blasted a two-run homer in the fourth for Lincoln. One inning later, DH Curt Smith and LF Jon Smith each hit solo homers to blow the game open. Jon Smith had a team-high three hits for the Saltdogs, and drove in a team-high three runs.

LHP Bennett Parry recorded five strikeouts in five innings to earn the victory for the Saltdogs, while LHP Jeff McKenzie garnered the final two outs for a save.

For Wichita, LF T.J. Mittelstaedt had a three-hit game and RF Richard Prigatano hit his first home run of the season.

Joplin 10, Winnipeg 5- Box

An offensive barrage by the Blasters helped Joplin to a 10-5 win to salvage a series split against Winnipeg to open the 2016 season. Leading 2-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Blasters broke the game open with a pair of two-RBI doubles — one from LF Willie Cabrera and another from SS Will Soto. The Blasters scored again in the sixth and sealed the win with a three-run seventh. Joplin finished the day with 16 hits, led by 3B Geraldo Valentin’s four. Cabrera and Soto had three apiece, and Soto hit his first home run of the season in the second.

On the mound, LHP Josue Montanez fanned eight batters in five innings to earn the win.

Winnipeg RF David Rohm had a two-hit game with two RBI in the losing effort.
