STRINGER NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

DURHAM, NC- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Wichita Wingnuts INF Christian Stringer (pictured) has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 25.

Stringer hit .538 (14-for-26) this week, collecting two doubles and four RBI, and helping Wichita to a 6-1 record over the week.

He started his hot week on Monday in the opener of a four-game series at the Salina Stockade. In an 11-5 Wichita win, Stringer was 4-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored. A day later, the Henderson, Tex. native went 1-for-4 with a walk in helping his team to a 9-1 triumph. The Wingnuts swept a doubleheader on Wednesday to complete a series sweep. Stringer had three hits in each game of the twinbill, as he was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in an 11-4 win in game one, and followed that up with a 3-for-4 game in game two that featured an RBI and a run scored. Wichita won 6-4. The Wingnuts welcomed in the Cleburne Railroaders for a weekend series, and despite losing Friday’s game 5-3, Stringer was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Wichita bounced back with a 3-2 win Saturday, and though Stringer was hitless, he walked twice and scored a run. On Sunday, the Wingnuts won the series with a 3-1 win, and Stringer was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

On the season, the former Rice University player is hitting .299 with seven doubles, a home run and 16 RBI.

2017 marks Stringer’s second season with the Wingnuts. He was a .287 hitter in 98 games in the 2016 campaign, collecting 19 doubles, four triples, a home run and 34 RBI. Prior to coming to Wichita, Stringer spent three seasons in the Chicago White Sox system. After hitting .312 with the rookie-level Great Falls (Mont.) Voyagers in 2013, he spent two years with the Class A Kannapolis (N.C.) Intimidators in 2014 and 2015.

The Wingnuts open a home series with the Texas AirHogs tonight at 7:05 p.m. Central time at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita. The series can be viewed in its entirety live and for free at www.americanassociationbaseball.tv.
