SIOUX CITY SWEEPS WEEKLY AWARD; SAMSON EARNS PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

MOORHEAD, MN- The official statistician of the American Association, Pointstreak, has announced that Sioux City Explorers’ SS Nate Samson has been named this week’s Pointstreak Player of the Week for the week ending June 16, 2019. The Explorers swept this week’s weekly awards with RHP Tyler Fallwell winning the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week Award as well.

Samson earned the award after putting together a blistering .467/.500/.800 line over the past seven games, collecting two home runs, one triple, two doubles, and seven RBIs in the process. On the year, Samson is hitting .339, good for seventh in the league.

Samson began his professional career in 2006 after being drafted in the 34th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs. The 2016 American Association Player of the Year spent eight seasons in the Cubs’ organization, reaching Triple-A twice. Samson made his first stop in the American Association with the Winnipeg Goldeyes in 2013. The 31-year-old would bounce between the Diamondbacks’ and Dodgers’ organizations in 2014 and 2015 while also making his first stop in Sioux City during the 2014 season. Samson latched on with the Explorers in 2016 and has played the majority of his games with them since, delivering four straight seasons of batting over .300.
