SALTDOGS SHUTOUT LEMURS, 2-0

Lincoln 2, Laredo 0 – Box

Lincoln starting pitcher Lindsey Caughel and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Saltdogs downed the Laredo Lemurs, 2-0. Caughel earned his fifth win of the year as he went the first seven innings giving up two walks and four hits while striking out eight batters. The bullpen duo of Brad Orosey and Evan Reed finished up the final two innings with Reed receiving his 13th save of the season. Lincoln scored both of their runs in the first inning on a RBI double by 2B/3B Connor Teykl and a run scoring single by LF Brandon Jacobs.

Gary SouthShore 3, Winnipeg 1 (12 Innings) – Box

Gary SouthShore RF Tillman Pugh launched a two-run home run in the top of the 12th inning to lead the RailCats to a 3-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The contest was scoreless until the seventh inning when CF Reggie Abercrombie hit a solo home run to make it 1-0 Winnipeg. Gary SouthShore would tie the game up at 1-1 in the eighth as 1B Jeremy Hamilton doubled home DH Frank Martinez. The score would remain at 1-1 until the 12th when Tillman hit the two-run blast. RailCats 3B Elbert Devarie and LF Anthony Cheky each had two hits with Devarie scoring a run. Gary SouthShore pitcher Moises Melendez threw three innings of scoreless relief to get the victory.

Sioux City 6, Texas 4 – Box

Trailing 2-0 after 2 ½ innings of play, the Sioux City Explorers scored all six of their runs in the next four innings and would take home a 6-4 win over the Texas AirHogs. Sioux City leadoff hitter Derrick Robinson led the way offensively going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI. Explorers SS Nate Samson collected two hits and three RBI while DH Brendan Slattery scored three runs in a 1-for-2 game. Sioux City starting pitcher James Walsh tossed five innings and picked-up his first victory of the season. Walsh gave up two earned runs on four hits and fanned a batter. For Texas in defeat, DH Burt Reynolds hit his league leading 18th home run of the season.

Kansas City 11, Joplin 1 – Box

The Kansas City T-Bones scored six runs in the fourth inning to roll out to an 8-0 lead and would cruise to an 11-1 win over the Joplin Blasters. Kansas City had 16 hits in the contest with six batters having multi-hit games. T-Bones 1B Jake Blackwood was the star offensively going 3-for-6 with a home run and five RBI. Kansas City 3B Sergio Leon also added a home run and two RBI with RF Tyson Gillies collecting two hits and two runs scored. T-Bones starter Josh Hodges received more than enough run support to notch the victory. Hodges gave up an earned run on four hits in seven innings pitched.

Wichita 10, Sioux Falls 2 – Box

Wichita scored early and often in this contest as they plated seven runs over the first three innings and rolled to a 10-2 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Wingnuts CF T.J. Mittelstaedt went 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI while LF/RF Brennen Salgado collected three hits, scored a run and drove in one. Wichita starting pitcher Alex Boshers tossed a sensational game en route to his fifth victory of the season. Boshers threw a complete game allowing an earned run on eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts.  For Sioux Falls in defeat, 2B Jake Taylor went 2-for-4.

St. Paul 3, Fargo-Moorhead 2 – Box

The St. Paul Saints scored all three of their runs in the third inning and erased an early deficit to beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, 3-2. St. Paul has now won seven straight and is a league best 40-16 overall. Saints 2B Tony Thomas went 1-for-2 with a run scored while RF Breland Almadova collected a hit and drove in a run. St. Paul was aided by 12 walks in the contest with 11 of them coming in the first 2 1/3 innings off Fargo-Moorhead starter Cody Scarpetta. Saints starting pitcher Dan Johnson picked-up his first victory of the season as he tossed 5 2/3 innings allowing two earned runs on three hits.
